What a difference 2 weeks makes!

My husband was sleeved 2 weeks ago by Dr Aceves. As of this morning he's down 16.6#, and his BP is 141/85. (No drugs for the past 3 days) That's a high-normal for BP, something he hasn't been for years, even with drugs. He also slept 5.5 hours without his cpap last night - a record for him.

He's on full fluids now, and is enjoying runny oatmeal with vanilla Syntrax, thinned, pureed beans, homemade soups, apple sauce, yogurt, protein pudding and shakes way more than he thought he would. He's really, really looking forward to food that he can eat with a fork. lol

Barry didn't actually care much about his weight, but with retirement coming soon he DID care about his health and the looming cost of his drugs and masks for his cpap. We love to travel and heading off for adventure is going to be easier and more fun with less drugs and no cpap to haul along!

I use a CPAP too, and although it doesn't bother me at all to wear it at home, it is a drag to have to haul it on vacation.  I'm looking forward to being free of it, too.

He's really struggled with his. He's always a bit congested, so is up every couple of hours, even with the breathing support from the cpap. We're hoping the congestion will lessen as he gets off some drugs with congestion as a side effect. I have noticed that he's snoring less when he skips the cpap. He used to pretty much raise the roof.

To add insult to injury, pretty much all of the drugs he's been on have fatigue as a side effect, and what do you do when you're exhausted all the time? Eat...

I'm not all that close to retirement but I knew I wouldn't make it without WLS.  I was always focused on my health too!  Congrats to both of you for a full life doing whatever you want to do!!!

Thanks! We have our eye on doing some walking tours - which would be a lot more challenging with the cpap and unstable blood pressure. We're hopeful that being able to ditch the drugs and machine will help us be able to do the walking tours etc.

Thanks!
My only frustration is that he's catching up to me fast. I was feeling a bit smug being 24# less than him for the first time in our 32 years of marriage, but now he's catching up and I'm only losing 2-4# a month at the mo.

What comforts me (somewhat) is that he'll hit goal in a few months, but I'll keep puttering along. He''ll pass me in the short term, but I'll hopefully pass him again and keep going.
