Probably dumb question, but...

I'm starting my pureed phase today and wanted to know if the small curd cottage cheese needs to be pureed or is it OK as is?

It's ok, just give it a little test first. You will know after a bite or two how it's gonna go. If it hurts or is uncomfortable then purée it is.

It should be fine, just chew and eat a very small amount, I am talking about less than 1/4 cup.  Take tiny bites and chew the heck out of it.

During pureed they told me I could have cottage cheese if I smashed it with a fork and chewed it very well.  I had no problem.

Small bites. Take the, slowly. Still try to chew and squish is between you teeth (no one will know).

If you start to feel reflux back off.
