6th months down, the rest of my life to go!
...BAMMMM!!!
My 6th month office visit with my sergeon went very well. I was really happy with my lab results. My AC1 was 5.1, even my cholesterol was good, both HDL and LDL in the optimal range and my triglycerides were below the standard range. I can definitely say this sleeve has been a life saver for me.
Congratulations on your first 6 months. And you've almost lost 100 pounds, and you are so close to goal! You are really working that sleeve! Great job.

Congratulations. Can I ask what your routine has been to be so successful? Strict eating and exercise I'd imagine, but it would be nice to hear details of what worked for you. It looks like we started at similar points and have similar goals. I'd love to drop my 100 within 6 months...although I'd be incredibly happy with it coming off as slowly as it wants, as long as it does in the end.
Part of my success was the blasted liquid diet. I was on it for 4 weeks (2 weeks on, 1 week off, 2 weeks on). As I was finishing my last day of my first two week diet I got the dreaded call that my surgery would be postponed for 3 weeks. I was given a 1 week of "go ahead and eat again, but then you need to redo the 2 week liquid diet at the end of next week". I did have a few small meals that week but kept it to 1 a day and liquid the rest of the day. Then back on the two week diet.
I have a bit of OCD in me, so I wrote everything down. My food intake each meal, water consumption, meds...Making sure I was eating under 30g of carbs, getting 80g of protein, and 80-100 oz of water each day. I also weighed my food and made sure I was under eating my sleeve. I was not a huge into exercise at first, was very tired all the time, but I did get my 2 mile walks in each day. I used a step counter and would keep trying to out do my previous day. As I lost weight and the energy started to come I increased exercise and started to lift weights.
My eating problem was mostly centered around eating too much at one time and when I was board. The sleeve solved the first part. And I think the journaling and tracking help me to control my board eating habit. I still find it much easier to plan my meals out for several days so I do not get tempted to eat off schedule or eat things not on my list.
I also used support from web sites, my hospital group meetings and friends to keep me motivated.
Thanks for the information. That's rough about the liquid diet, but I guess it helped in the end, right? I'm going to follow this and I think it'll work. I also have a touch of the OCD, so once I get a system, I stick to it. And the bored eating sounds like me too--so far, the sleeve has definitely helped although my hunger hasn't totally gone away like some people report. I only had a 2-day liquid diet pre-op though, so I'll be starting in the hole compared to where you started. Thanks again.
