Is this OK? I just sort of assumed if I was OK to exercise, that shoveling would be OK, but now I'm second guessing myself....I have NO desire to hurt myself...

What say you, wise elders?

Do you have a weight restriction when it comes to lifting? Be careful not to strain too hard!

My doc told me no exercise other than walking until 6 weeks.  I'd include snow shoveling in that!

Hi,

Please be very careful. Shoveling snow can be deceptively strenuous. Snow is quite heavy, and the combination of lifting, bending, and twisting may not be an ideal exercise so early out.

Keep warm and well, Katy

consult weight 241 (had not been accurately weighed for over 10 years, my medical records just said "wheelchair") high weight was probably closer to 260.

My doctor said to listen to my body, if it feels ok then try it but take it slow.  I was playing tennis at two weeks out. I had low energy and took a lot of breaks but felt great.

I don't think I'd do it!!! I was told nothing strenuous until at least 6 wks and no lifting, pushing, pulling anything over 15 lbs. They suture the abdominal wall and you're VERY susceptible to a hernia!!!

No to the the shoveling.  Please wait til you are six weeks out.  I work in a surgical practice and the rule is generally no lifting greater than 10 lbs. for 4 to 6 weeks depending on the surgery.
