How long after surgery could you go on vacation?
My surgery for VSG is scheduled for June 17. My husband put in for vacation for the last two weeks of July but instead of was given the first two weeks of July. So, we would be leaving for a two day drive on July 4. Part of me feels that that will be fine as my husband loves to drive, so I don't have to do any of it and I can pack a two day cooler of food for myself. Part of me feels nervous leaving my surgeons that soon after surgery.
If you've had the surgery, what is your opinion?
I wouldn't want to go on vacation until I was eating solid food. Dealing with purees or liquids while traveling just seems too stressful for me.
I went to NYC for a few days during my fifth week post-op.
(I'd also be careful about scheduling things because my surgery had to be rescheduled.)

I had my surgery on April 30th and am scheduled for a trip to Europe on June 20th. It was planned long before I got my surgery date. I was told that should be no problem for plane travel but to be mindful with lifting luggage.
As someone who is 12 days out now, I can say that I could handle a road trip ok, but there would need to be lots of stops (like every hour) to get out and walk. You will need this to continue to prevent blood clots. walking 5-10 mins every waking hour. As long as you do that, and maybe take a small pillow to go under the seatbelt and stay up with your fluids, it could be a very do-able trip.
Surgery: April 30, 2014: HW: 288 SW: 250 Achieved Goal 149 lbs: April 8, 2015 CW: 158 lbs (working on losing 65 lb regain as of June 1, 2021. Weight was at 215 lbs). Fighting every darn day!
Just recalling last fall when I took my Dad to the world renowned Cleveland Clinic for a major surgery, which was 3600 miles away. We flew back two days after the surgery and the doctors/nurses told my Dad and myself to at every 1/2 hour intervals on the long plane trip home, flex his feet up and down ten times which would help with circulation and prevent blood clots. He was unable to get up and walk every 1/2 hour on the plane and this exercise worked well.
