Last Friday I decided to call my insurance and see how my approval was coming (doc told me it usually takes 1 to 2 weeks to hear back and this was a week & a half out) Turns out, my dr's insurance person never sent my docs.  I was really proud of the way I handled the situation though. I didn't lose my temper, just thanked my insurance rep and she gave me direct phone & fax numbers for my doc to send my info. Then I called the doc office. The receptionist sent a note to the insurance guy. I then sent another note in my online chart calmly telling my surgeon the issue since we had problems with office communications early on. I received a message back quickly from his PA that she had ordered the info sent & would check with the finance guys herself. Not long after I got a note from that guy that they were behind (thanks for telling someone) and he got my info out that day and thanked me for the direct numbers for insurance and it would help it go smoother. I'm going to call again tomorrow to make sure they received the docs just to be sure.

Now, besides that slight setback, my thoughts come more from posts on fb and other places talking about being summer bathing suit ready. It really makes me wish I started my revision journey sooner, but I hope that next summer I'll be rocking the bathing suit in my apt pool with all the beautiful and not so beautiful people. LOL. I don't even care if I'm down to goal. I just want to be comfortable enough to not wear shorts or a skirt with or as my suit. For now I'll stick to the fall/winter thoughts of skinny jeans and cute sweaters and boots that I don't have to buy in a plus size store. Come on insurance! Get me a date!

I can relate to your frustration.  At 11am the day before my surgery something made me call the office to confirm everything was still on track.  I found out my Primary never sent over my clearance for the surgery.  I got in my car and drove to the doc's office.  I wasn't taking any chances.  I'm glad you checked and you took charge of the situation.  We really have to keep on top of everything because even folks you don't expect to drop the ball (my doctor's  office has great support staff) can do so at times.

I think you handled the insurance company paperwork issues very well.  Great job advocating for yourself!

I think you'll be surprised how quickly you will get to your goal once you have surgery.  It is an amazing journey.  I wish you the best!

Thanks Carol! I'm trying to be patient but it's hard. I can't wait to be losing.

Simply put: DO NOT rely on either insurance or Dr's offices to take always care of business. PERIOD. You have GOT to do your part of the bargain and stay on their butts. Squeaky wheel and all......

Yeah I learned that 8 years ago when it took 2 years to get approved for lap band. And again a few months ago with my original surgery center for the sleeve. Can't take any chances when I want to get it done. I'm going to kill them with kindness (which isn't anything like me!)

Very very smart! !! I'm a very impatient person so when somethings in my head I have to go for it!!! I hate the hurry up and wait process so I usually get on it my self!!!

My surgery process once I was 100% positive I wanted it was started in the beginning of march on April 8th I had my surgery ..that's fitting in all my appts getting signed off on from a cardiologist  endocrinologist physiologist gastronterologist  seeing my pcp 2 times on my endoscopy.plus staying in touch with the insurance company to get it done.. ..my surgeon was like wow we have never seen anyone want it this bad and jump through as many hoops as you have this quickly. ..

If I'd have know then what I know now id have done it much sooner! !! :-)

I was hoping mine would be sooner, but I ended up having to find a new surgeon after doing all my pre-cert stuff. I think it worked out for the best though. I like the new one much more.

I called insurance today & they verified that they got my paperwork on Monday. She said it usually takes 3-5 days, but they have up to 15 so I should hear soon! I can't wait!

I think I about drove the insurance people with my surgeon crazy I called so much!!    LOL!  I was really anxious to get it done and over with and didn't seem like things was going fast enough for me.  I'm sure everyone thinks the same thing.  I started my process in March and just had my surgery yesterday. But I kinda tried to arrange mine around my work schedule too.  I drive a school bus, so I wanted it to be during summer break. I hope you get your approval very soon and we will be seeing you on the losers bench also!! GOOD LUCK!!
