Too much sugar, sugar everywhere..lol

I am getting about 4g a day because their is 1g in my protein shakes ( I have 2 a day) and there is 1g in my no sugar added Popsicle ( one a day) and I have a cup of broth a day that has 1gram.  My NUT specifically said sugar expands my stomach. It is not something i can cut out because I am still week one post op so I am on full liquid diet. They put sugar in everything.

Sugar expands your stomach?  That's a new one.. seems bogus.

Yeah, she said sugar and bread and soda. She told me to cut all of them out.

Wow.

I'm sorry, I just can't wrap my head around a NUT using such a stupid scare tactic.  Sugar does not expand in your stomach.  How could it?  Grains can, since they absorb things.  But sugar?

ARGH.  That just ****** me off.

I am going to call her because maybe I misunderstood her but I am pretty sure that is what she said.

If she says it again, you should ask her to explain how that works.  Because she's wrong.

Well Seeing as everyone agrees with you and they have been through the process as well as you I am sure your right. Hopefully I misunderstood her or I am going to be worried about following anything else she said. I am also going to stop sweating the sugar.

Hmm I will call her and clarify just to make sure I did not misunderstand her. I am pretty sure that is what she said though. Thank you. Since the surgery I find myself looking at everything I put in my body down to the last calorie but I think that's the point.

I agree with the other comments, this sounds crazy.  With only 4g per day, I would think you would start feeling absolutely awful and run-down - we need some of this for energy, right?  Maybe she meant 40g per day?  That's much more in line with a low-carb eating program. Please check in with your NUT again and see if there was a misunderstanding.  Good luck!
