Concern About Preparedness !!!!!!

I dont know if its just me, but some of the posts i have been reading lately are making me scratch my head. I know everyone wants the surgery RIGHT NOW. But from what i have be reading it seems to me a lot of people are not prepared. I dont know if this is do with not doing their homework or not paying attention at appointments or just rushing through the process. I for one can tell you to please be prepared. I know from experience from a previous VBG done in the 90s that did not work for me. It failed do to staples letting go and a hernia. But i take some responsibility as well. Back then there was no support groups no NUT, SW ,RD nothing. I WAS NOT prepared . Since then i have had theropy as to my over eating. I am prepared beyond belief this time around. I just want everyone to be prepared and be ready for this life changing experience, and realize that this is just a tool to help us, WE have to know what we putting in our mouths . The amounts of Fat, Sugar etc etc. This is not an easy process and the weight will not stay off if we dont know how and what to eat. I am not trying to offened anyone, i just need to say this because i care that this surgery works for each and every one of us. Just be prepared guys it will make a huge difference. Take Care.. Thanks Krista...

I too had a failed VBG and am having a revision on Tuesday. I am very prepared and have books galore and have spent countless hours researching and reading. I think of this second chance as a true gift. I too did not have any follow up or other info when I had the VBG. Was basically just thrown to the wolves. I am grateful for the  follow up and sites like this for help and information. I have started stocking up on foods with very low sugars, carbs and fats though none of the literature I have says what our daily maximums should be for these items hence my earlier post.  This is going to be a success this time for me. I am totally prepared.  I recommend others do a lot of research too.

Thanks Krista. I agree 110% about all the clinics having the same guidelines. You would think that that the province would require everyone being on the same page. It certainly would make things easier for everyone involved in the process.

I think it is presumptuous to assume that some people who are posting and seeking information here are not preparing themselves for surgery. It seems to me that anyone who is undertaking invasive and life changing surgery is going to make sure that they understand as much about it as they can. It would be unfortunate for people to not post their questions here for fear that they might be judged as impatient or lazy or unprepared.

I am not being presumptuous when i read posts of some even after surgery who dont know the minumal amount of info that should have learned at the very begining. And that makes me concerned for them. That tells me they may be in for struggle right from the start if they dont know these things. Thats why i said please be preparred . Everyone is different and some will struggle more than others. And this site is here for all of us to post our questions and concerns. My post was to stress to be preparred. I said in my post i am not trying to offened anyone. I have 2 people i know personally that had this surgery and have gained half the weght back. When we talk one of the biggest mistakes they say they made was not being preparred . My one friend never weighed her food , and she never kept track of fat, sugar etc. She is not lazy, she just didnt take in all the info and help provided. She wishes she would have waited she says. We are all impatient and want the surgery done right now, I for one was not ready when i had my VBG done in the 90s. I wish i would have had the informtion and support back then. I am not judging anyone , just wanted to post my concern. And in no way should ANYONE feel they should not post a question or concern. We are here to help one another. And if by me posting this helps one person, thats all that matters.... Sorry yoy took offence Kayakgirl , thats not what i was trying to do. Krista..

I have to agree with Kayak .... This post sort of irked me.
The reason for this forum is to get help, support and answer any and all questions you have. Asking others who are in your same situation is a fabulous way to prepare yourself!!
I think posts like this do nothing if not make others feel subconcious about asking for help and information.

So to anyone and everyone *****ads this thread and is offended or feels guilty posting questions .... don't. Post away and use the forum as a community for help and answers ♥
