Feeling down in the dumps

Today is my 1 year anniversary since my surgery. I had it done to get healthier, off meds, and have less pain in my hip from gout. Well I lost 95lbs. Reached my goal of 150. The only meds I got off of was my blood pressure meds. Was taken off insulin right after surgery but then put on Metformin 3 months ago. Went for blood work for my 1 yr appt. which got changed to Dec. but asked for results. All levals were good. Sugar was high. My hip from the gout has been killing me. I know I should be happy. But today for some reason I feel very down in the dumps. Thanks for letting me vent.

You know , I think we all have days like this. Some days I'm up in the clouds from happiness. Others, I'm just not feeling it. I know I should be happy but I just feel blah. I usually make myself go out in these days and it actually helps me feel better to just be out and about doing something.

Have you changed your diet that would require you to go back on metformin? You were off meds for 9 months! That's great. look at your diet. are you cheating more? Picked up old habits? Less exercise, protein and liquids?

You were off meds before, you can do it again! Keep your chin up! Be proud you got to goal in less than a year! Don't beat yourself up and get back in the game.

good luck, dear!

RNY is not a cure for diabetes!   For some people, it will put them into remission but for some of us, that remission doesn't last.  It doesn't mean we are eating wrong, cheating or have gone back to bad habits!!!!

I am very diet compliant, have a normal BMI, exercise faithfully and am a diabetic on Metformin - the OP probably doesn't do anything "wrong' either - she is just probably a diabetic for whom remission was short lived ...

I hope you feel better soon.  It sounds like you are doing everything right, maybe just hit a rough patch.

I too am on Metformin at 8 years post RnY.   Diabetes is an insidious disease and RNY does put it into remission for some people - but it is NOT a cure - once a diabetic, always a diabetic unfortunately.

I do everything I am supposed to too - I am very diet compliant, I exercise faithfully and I still have diabetes.   Don't let anyone tell you that you MUST be doing anything wrong.   Sometimes we can do everything right and we still need to take meds to control our diabetes.   I am sure that if I were 100lbs heavier, I would be on insulin by now, so being able to control it by Metformin and lifestyle compliance is a good thing - as it is for you too!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss and being off your bp meds - I hope your mood picks up soon ...

I NEVER said she MUST be doing something wrong. she named something that was bothering her, being back on meds. I was simply feeling out to see if there was a reason, other than diabetes sucks ass.

I would like it if you wouldn't make me look like a bad guy. I was trying to help.

I didn't make you "look like the bad guy" I just shared some information you may not have been aware of ...

If you offer advice to people, you need to know what you are talking about and be willing to stand behind it.   Re-read what you wrote to the OP and see if you are happy with what you wrote in terms of information and support to someone who is feeling bad because of their cir****tances.   If you are, then I certainly didn't make you "look like the bad guy".

I am more than willing to stand behind my post to you and the OP both in terms of facts and support!
