I need some advice....

I just found out that my son has a basketball make up game the night before my surgery.  I have to do a magnesium citrate bowel prep that day.  Am I going to be pooping all night... or is there a chance I can make his game?

I had to use that once in the past and I needed to be near the restroom for a good 6 hours.  So I guess it's how early you take it.

How late will the game run and how early will your surgery be? I would have been okay to take it later in the evening, but I didn't have anywhere to go so I just hung around the house.

ETA: by later in the evening I meant after the game

I suggest no.  You will be running to the bathroom so much, you won't be able to watch the game.

Originally my plan was to work 1/2 day - then go home and drink the citrate. They had recommended doing it in the morning.  The reason being, they were afraid if I took it too late, I would be up in the potty all night and not get any sleep.

I do not know when my surgery time is. I live an hour away from the hospital and they said I will be called in 2 hours before surgery; they said his first case is at 7am so I could potentially be leaving home at 4am.

The game is at 6:45 pm and will last not quite an hour. I would be home by 8pm.

Even if you do not sleep much the night before, you will have a chance to after surgery.

I would advise you to stay home and take the bowel prep as early as possible.

Congratulations!

I took mine at 1:00 in the afternoon as directed. I was still needing a potty up until I was wheeled into surgery the next morning.

I took mine at 1 in the afternoon. I had a couple BMs and was fine. Thought it was so simple. 7 hours after taking it, it started WORKING. My suggestion is, dont risk it. Stay home and keep yourself comfortable. You never know if you are "empty" or not, so I would just hang out by the toilet for the evening.
