Stupid abdominal pains
I am still having abdominal pains! I am so sick of it. They are not constant but on and off daily. Especially at night I have spoke to my surgeon, she referred me to my regular doctor. Went there and after blood work and a urinalysis all was clear. She prescribed a gastrointesinal medicene.
What is this?????
I am using the restroom fine.....at first I was worried about a blockage
ugh!
Once we have gastric bypass, it seems that there is often a tendency for us AND our PCPs to assume that any ache or pain is related to the RNY, when often the problem has nothing to do with the intestinal system. People still periodically have bladder, appendix, or reproductive issues, for example, that might cause lower abdominal pain. I think this is an area where we have to be a good advocate for ourselves to make sure that the people who are treating us don't have "tunnel vision" because of the RNY.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I am sympathetic about the pain. I saw a new surgeon two weeks ago who my bariatric surgeon referred me to for a consult on a total gastrectomy due to chronic marginal ulcers. When I was in his office, he discovered that I had an impinged nerve caught in scar tissue which he said can happen after abdominal surgery. He numbed it in his office with a needle and something similar to novacain. Because that took away A LOT of my pain, he performed surgery last week. It was called a cutaneous neurectomy and it involved him injecting the nerve with dye (while I was awake to make sure he got it). I was then put to sleep and he cut the nerve out.
This has resulted in a HUGE reduction in pain for me. Yes I still have other issues going on but he was the first to consider this. For anyone experiencing continuous pain after surgery, primarily by an incision site, I encourage you to ask your surgeon about this possibility. In one week, I am using less than half of the daily pain medication.
Good luck to you. I hope that they can figure out the problem but definitely ask about this possibility.
i wound up in 2 different ers in one day after the first one basically said i was playing dr. so i went to where i had my gb. they did exploratory surgery and low and behold....bowel obstruction!!!
dont let them blow you off, you do not want to go through what i did. keep on them.
I have lower abdominal pain all the time and my lower back hurts all the time. My Dr. just gave me birth control to "regulate" the pain. I went to a hormone specialist this week and he seems thorough, he will be doing some blood work and saliva tests. I don't know that it is my hormones but that's where I'm starting to see why I hurt all the time.
