I'm 10days post op and am having a big issue with incision pain on the left side under my rib cage. It's to the point that I have to ice it almost constantly and take my pain pills only for pain from that spot. It actually woke me up last night it hurt so bad. It was feeling better about 5-6 days post op, but then I remember sneezing or coughing and it felt like it was ripping apart on the inside. Any one have any ideas? Or had the same thing happen? Last night was so bad I almost went to the er. :/

I am 2 weeks post op and I am having the same pain in the same area.  It hurts like a *****!  I am taking my pain meds alot more than some other people but I just can't help it.  My doc explained to me that that is the area where they did the majority of the work and so that is where the majority of my pain will be.  Good Luck to you!  i'm just trying to get through it.

I feel like I am constantly popping pain pills just for that spot! Trying to even control the break through pain with Tylenol. Nothing seems to be helping. I feel like its getting in the way of my walking!

That is the spot where I hurt the longest also so I think that's normal. Although I can't quite remember how long it lasted. Hope you both feel better soon!

when in doubt, call your surgeon's office, their nurse will have the best answer.  go with your instinct.  i say, if you have a fever that accompanies this pain (100.1 or more) then it's time for the ER or a office visit at the least. if you are posting about it here, then you are worried.  no worry is too small at this stage.  no one will think you are asking a stupid question if you call the bariatric nurse, these situations are what they are trained for.

Thanks calling my nurse in the morning. Military doctors, so if they are off they just refer you to er. Better to wait for the ones *****ally care to answer

I had most of my pain in that area too. I used ice packs and was told to massage it to break up any scar tissue that was forming. I don't know if that helped but it was much better after a few weeks and the large lump around it seemed to go away. Hang in there. It gets so much better...

I had pain there as well. Doctor told me it was because I had stitches in there and it would take time to heal. He was right, it's better now.  I use to sneeze and felt like I was going to die!!
