I had mine on December 10th, and I can relate to getting the jitters just beforehand! I have this technique that works for me where I think "This time next week..." or "This time next month..." or day or year, whatever is relevant for the situation.
- When I went in for RNY I kept thinking to myself "This time tomorrow I'll be out of surgery and on my way to a healthier me".
- When I got to my room, a bit woozy and sore, I kept thinking to myself "This time next week I'll be at home and already half way through phase 1 of the recovery diet".
- Since I've been home I do much the same thing "This time next month I'll be feeling stronger and eating something other than broth and shakes :)"
- But what really motivates me in the moment is "This time next year I'll be able to play with my kids without getting exhausted".
So my suggestion is pick a few very near term goals related to your progress, achieve those, and keep rolling. You're going to do great!
These are great suggestions! I like your attitude :)

I had my surgery Wednesday. It really wasn't bad at all. Just ask for pain meds and nausea meds when you need it. I had never had surgery before, so I was nervous. It was much better than I expected. You can do this! I already feel it's worth it after just 5 days. I'm even getting out and going not church today and then Walmart.
