My husband is in commercial construction and just finished a new office space for an optometrist group. They are giving his family members lasik surgery for a steal. (which it'd have to be cuz I was cash pay for my RNY a few months ago) Anyway, has anyone ever done this?

Will I have trouble afterwards not being able to take NSAIDs? Any advice for an RNY patient- just any advice at all? Thanks so much...

I had Lasik about 14 years ago, so before RNY.  I did not have any pain and did not take any drugs after the procedure.  If you can do it, I highly recommend it.  It was a miracle.  I am still glasses/contacts free to this day.

When I had it done years ago there was absolutely no pain.  Even if there was, I was given steroid eye drops which aren't a problem.

I can't see it being a factor in any way.

I also had lasik before RNY, and I can't see why it would make any difference. Lasik is amazing, and you won't need to take anything other than special eye drops.

I had lasik after my RNY.  NO pain.  None.  There was very minor scratchy feeling that the eye drops they give took care of.  No pain, no discomfort.  Never NSAIDS and no need for them.  Go for it!  BUT as with any surgery, discounted or not, do your research.  Check out the doctors and their procedure.  They are not created equal.  Don't to it just because it's cheap.

I wouldn't worry about it. Loved having Lasik. It is more an irritation feeling, than pain....they do give you eye drops.

I had LASIK when I was 22, and I only regret having it that early because my vision regressed and 6 years later, I was back to needing glasses/contact (I'll get a revision someday when my prescription stabilizes for longer). But I needed no painkillers at all after. I was driving 24 hours later. Just make sure you have LOTS of preservative-free eye drops on hand -- it's not pain so much as feeling like there's grit or sand in your eyes.
