So i was at whole foods this morning and picked up a few things. I thought oh- i better get some probiotics- given that I will receive  lots of antibiotics, and i thought too, with the bowel prep and clean out and then rearranging my insides that probiotics might help. So i did a little research and found this article 'Probiotics help gastric by pass patients lose weight more quickly"

so i wanted to share-

https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2009/07/probiotics-he lp-gastric-bypass-patients-lose-weight-more-quickly-stanford -study-shows.html

i did search probiotic on here and there were some threads. I also looked for Kombucha , and fermented foods. All help the gut, and since we have changed our gut, it probably needs all the help it can get.

Interesting study, very small group though. The most interesting part was the B12 improvement.

"The study showed that at three months, the probiotics group registered a 47.6 percent weight loss, compared with a 38.5 percent for the control group.

The study also found that levels of vitamin B-12 were higher in the patients taking probiotics--a significant finding because patients often are deficient in B-12 after gastric-bypass surgery. The probiotics group had B-12 levels of 1,214 picograms per milliliter at three months, compared with the control group's levels of 811 pg/mL."

I'm still pre-op and I firmly believe in the effectiveness of probiotics, I take one daily. And if it helps maintain normal B12 levels, all the better.

good point- i didnt  even look at the  size of the group.  I was really looking to see what i could find on whether we should take them. Or at least confirm what i thought  / felt. - that they would be good.  Better b-12 and possibly better  weight  loss? i'll  take  it!  i am t- 6 days to my surgery...

We have a kombucha brewery a few miles from my house and I just bought a Groupon for a tour of their facility and a tasting.  They also brew Kombucha beer and my hubby is a microbrew lover, so he's excited to check it out. I've never tried it before, but I'm interested in it.

I started drinking 1/2 a cup of Kefir occasionally.  I get the unsweetened and add a splash of sugar free Torani syrup to it.  It's got some carbs and calories, but 1/2 a cup isn't bad and I can fit it into my plan most days.
