Hi there,

It's been a week and a half post op and I've hit a stall. I actuallygained one pound couple days ago, lost half a pound yesterday a day gained the the half I lost yesterday back today.

I'm currently on liquids and eating1-2 ounces of did each meal. I'm having breakfast,  snack (sometimes no snack), lunch,  snack,  dinner.  My meal usually lol like this:

B: 1 cup of decaf coffee. Half an hour later one premier                  protein shake

Snack: one oz of ricotta cheese

Lunch: 1 oz of creamy soup 1 oz of cottage cheese (yesterday I had 1 oz yoghurt 1 oz of cottage cheese -too much? )

Snack : 1 Premier protein shake

Dinner : 1 oz of creamy soup 1 oz of yoghurt

What am I doing wrong? Am I  doing anything wrong?

Please help.

Thanks,

Jen

What you are experiencing is very common. It is referred to as the three week stall, but like you, I experienced it much sooner than three weeks out. Your body just needs time to adjust. Keep doing what you are doing, and it will pass.

Thanks for your reply!  I've also lost 27 lbs since the start of Optifast. 16 lbs before surgery  and 11 after. So,  you're right,  this is normal.

You are definitely over thinking this.  Noone loses every day, and not even every week, so it's impossible to be in any sort of stall in 10 days!!!

Do what you are supposed to do and stay off the scale if you are going to obsess about it.

Just because you have a stall, it doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong. It is common early out, and along the journey. I had a stall one week post-op that lasted 3 1/2 weeks. had another 2 weeks stall in month 3... they are part of the process. On any given day you can gain or lose...it is natural for your body to fluctuate.

You are obviously not eating a lot...I would just count your protein grams and count the ounces of fluids and try to get to the minimum 60g protein and 64oz fluids.

your problem is not with what you are eating - you are weighing too frequently given the changes your body is going through.  once a week is enough until you get close to goal weight.  a stall is 4 WEEKS with no loss.

If you have to weigh daily - record 6 days in pencil and the 7th in pen.   only care about the pen numbers. after a month you will begin to understand the natural variability of your body and your scale.   the variability of the scale and you are too much to expect to show a daily loss or even a consistent trend.

i am 15 months after surgery down 125 pounds and 20-25 pounds under my dream goal.  really, focus on following instructions - which i can tell u r doing by your posts  - and living your life.   the scale will take care of itself.

best wishes for your success,

Sharon

Tell someone to hide the scale from you. Lol

i used to weigh before and after going to bathroom. Drove myself nuts. Weigh once a week. You did nothing wrong. This is a good time to measure yourself. Sometimes you don't see the scale move but you lose inches. Good luck on your surgery

I had Vertical sleeve, but I am going to reply to your post because I had exactly the same thing! I lost 28 before surgery, 6 the first week after and then NONE for 4 weeks! It was very depressing. I have only lost another 1 1/2 since that time. So I am very discouraged. I am eating practically nothing. Mostly protein drinks (getting all my protein) and drinking the water. Yet I don't lose much! I never dreamed it would be this slow! I went on Medifast years ago and lost 30 pounds and 3 pant sizes in 30 days...so this is such a shock to me. I can't get in to talk to anyone because my nurse PA  quit a week before my post op appointment with her and they can't get me in with her replacement until next month. The Bariatric office says it is too soon for me to go to the nutritionist. So I feel abandoned...and very depressed.
