I go for my first follow-up

after surgery tomorrow and I'm expecting my doctor to move me to soft foods. So I'm wondering what makes the best meal

for the soft foods phase. I was thinking eggs but I've read so many people have problems early on with eggs. Them my next thought goes to Tuna salad but again also read where tuna causes issue's for people. I'd love to hear suggestions. I'm ready to move on from liquids if you can't tell already since I'm planning what im going to eat first ?

My favorite was chili and stayed a favorite for a while.

I'm on the puréed phase, and last night I puréed some roast beef with mashed potatoes, and it was delicious!!! For lunch I have been doing a lot of Greek yogurt because it has lots of protein!

Ricotta bake from the works according to egg face . Roast beef hash, ham salad, chicken salad. If you type soft food stage in the search bar you'll find a lot of ideas

Tuna works well for me... I've done egg salad, and that's been fine. I haven't tried drier eggs though.

Any kind of grilled fish has been a success too. Hummus is critical in my life these days LOL black beans, seasoned and topped with cheddar cheese, a bit of salsa and a dollop of sour cream is great! I have found that my tastebuds are working overtime... anything I put in my mouth tastes like heaven! cottage cheese and black beans actually are nice together...

Just remember, what I'm learning - and still struggling with - is the amount of food. Just because your doc approves you for a certain amount (ie 1/4c), doesn't mean your pouch wants that much. I have either over eaten or not chewed well enough, or eaten too quickly 4 times now... each time I've been miserable.

When the vets say eat slowly, they're not lying! 2Tbl may be all you can eat of a more solid food... one thing may agree with you today, and the next day not so much....

Have fun with it, and make good choices!

Your doc should offer you a list of "OK" foods to try.  Just go slow and see what works for you.  Every person is different and it changes from day to day, week to week.

I know I over committed on some expensive things like protein shakes and isopure that I really thought I would love and depend on. Turned out it was a waste of money.  Don't stock up things...just buy a few and see if they go well.

Best of luck,

~Elizabeth

My go-to foods during the soft food stage were refried beans w/cheese on top (this was the 1st food I had right out of the chute), vegetarian chili, poached egg, and Ricotta Bake.
