Vitamin doses

I am trying to get back on track on all my vitamins but don't remember the dosage for the vitamin C and iron. Also which iron is best? I seem to remember something about a certain type of iron being better for us.

Sorry, I wish I could help. I had VSG so we different supplements. I'm sure you will get good advice from others.

iron is going to depend on your labs. It's different for everyone. Some men and post-menopausal women need little to none (I'm one of the latter, but I still need it...my levels will tank without it). Carbonyl iron is one of the gentlest and best-absorbed forms, but it seems to be getting harder to find. I'll let some of the others weigh in on other good forms as that's the one I went with.

I am using the Patch MD iron patches. Labs will be 3/28 so stay tuned ;). I have been low in iron for most of my life, post-menopausal now but still low iron and I do not prefer meat to make matters worse. I was told that SlowFE was good, but also told that carbonyl iron is better than other forms. I do not take extra C, just a good multi (my surgeon recommends Centrum Silver for me). I also take B12 2500 mg, D3 5000 iu every other day, and the calcium/D3 patch. Like I said, more lab work due 3/28 but so far so good. I am almost six months post-op and have recently had a huge surge in energy levels. What that means, not sure... maybe the 75 pounds I have lost but maybe also the higher vitamin levels.

I would suggest making an appointment with you pcp and having your bloodwork done. Early post, op our vitamin recommendations might be similar, but the further out from surgery we are, everyone has their own personal ****tail based on their bloodwork results.

Good luck, and great work getting back on track with your vitamins!

Thank you every one. I am 6 years out and was hoping to get a general idea of the doses. I finally found some of my old bottles so I do have more to go on. I have an appointment with my surgeons office and my PC. My surgeons office will run all my labs and fax them to my PC.

My dosage is 18mg a day, for what it's worth. I'm using the Celebrate Iron+C chewables. I probably need more, but need to go have my iron retested as it was low pre-surgery but I was not on iron supplements then.

That is not enough for me I do know that. I am going to have all my labs done next week to find out exactly where I am on this. I'll probably order some from Vitalady when they are back in stock. I used to use the Sundown perfect iron but since they don't make it any more I have to do something else.

I take carbonyl iron (same as perfect iron) at 45 mg per day + 60 mg iron fumerate a day -- I have iron issues, however. I also wear the iron patch 2 days a week. Before my iron issues, the 45 of Sundown was good. Your dose will depend on your labs. People usually recommend carbonyl because it is less likely to cause constipation.

I take 500 mg of Vitamin C with my iron. It helps with absorption.

I was taking Sundown before everything blew up in my face both health wise and personally. During the course of all this nonsense I have let all of my vitamins go by the wayside But no more. With 3 Dr's appointments next week with my PCP, bariatric center and pain specialist I am getting my act together. Next up will by my rheumatologist and therapist.
