Good morning menu folks! Another hot and humid day here in MD today.

Snack: Lemonade protein shake

Lunch: TJ's Balsamic Chicken

Snack: 2 oz. Turkey breast

posted my menu on the other menu thread, but I want to post on this one, too, since I love to do the QOTD!!

I used to be the same as you, Librarian - I really didn't want the chocolate & vanilla shakes during the first few months post-surgery. My favorites were Syntrax Fuzzy Navel, Iced Tea, and Grapefruit - all mixed with Crystal Light Lemonade.

However, I learned pretty early out that I malabsorb protein and need 100-150 grams a day to keep my prealbumin level up, so that means I still have a protein shake every day (and I don't mind - I like them). I could probably do without them, but then I have to consciously think about my protein intake all day. It's never a problem when I have a shake in the morning - it's an easy way to boost my intake.

anyway, I do like chocolate and vanilla now when doctored up. I mix them with coffee to make lattes, or with chai tea to make chai tea shakes (with both, I add ice and blend as well). I also like to mix vanilla shakes with frozen strawberries, or with mint extract & green food coloring (and ice again with the latter) to make a shamrock shake. With all shakes, I occasionally add a tablespoon of SF/FF vanilla pudding mix to add depth of flavor and to thicken it a bit.

I come up with all kinds of things - like peach melba (unsweetened cashew milk, Syntrax Fuzzy Navel powder, frozen raspberries & some ice) or mango (unsweetened cashew milk, vanilla protein powder, a few pieces of fresh or frozen mango & a half packet or so of Crystal Light tangerine/mango powder (to give it more of a mango-y taste)). Or mixing peanut butter protein powder & cinnamon protein powder (in a 2:1 ratio) is also pretty tasty. I experiment all the time....need to keep it interesting!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your protein shake ideas!!!

I freeze regular plain yogurt in ice cube trays and use them to make shakes. I figure that way I'm not wasting any space in my pouch with water and getting more "real" protein than the powder alone. Now I'm thinking about mixing vanilla protein powder into the plain yogurt before I freeze it... I use the regular yogurt for this because it has more liquid for the shake. Hmmmmmm so many ideas!

I did my long answer on Teena's post, but I'll answer your QOTD...

I don't do protein powders/drinks anymore... if I DO have a protein shake, we have a case of the banana Premier Protein RTD ones in the laundry room... they've been in there for months now. I just don't need them anymore unless I'm really running a lot and don't have time to grab anything else.

BTW.... LOVE YOUR NEW PICTURE!!!! Quite the transformation!!! You're doing a great job!

Hi Pammianne, better check the expiration dates on your protein shakes...I had some vanilla ones that turned into lumpy sludge! So gross, but a little past their date so my fault entirely.
