Today's Christmas pot luck is much the same. Comfort food. Lots of it. I've prepared myself for that though, and avoiding it is pretty easy. I brought in a veggie tray and sampled a bit of that, and my boss (the tiniest little Indian man with the biggest heart, who knows of my situation) made a high protein bean/lentil soup. It's melting my face off because of the spice level (and I like hot food) but bless his heart, he made it a point to come in to my office and tell me he made it for me specifically. I am enjoying it with a thumb-sized piece of my coworker's fry-bread. She is First Nations and makes it according to her family customs. I thought it had origins in the Navajo tribe (of which is part of my decent, as well as Blackfoot, English and Scottish....a weird mix to be sure) but this is a slightly different version. At any rate it's ridiculously good together without breaking the bank.

The meatballs I thought I smelled earlier, are actually bacon-wrapped peppers, so I might try a small one, but not if I'm full. That'll be the extent of me wandering over there.

The sugary stuff will be avoided, but someone brought in a bunch of individual Starbucks instant coffees in various flavours, so I guess I know what I'll be drinking later in addition to my water.

"melting my face off"...lol...it sounds good, though! Not even sure what fry bread IS, but it sounds good, also!

I must be hungry:)

Comfort food ! My Mom still struggles with trying to please me with food and her cooking and I am 49 years old! LOL. My folks just came to our house from Florida and she hounds me for meal ideas. There is not much that I crave anymore ( Pizza and sweets are still a challange that I manage). Comfort food is still a challange with Ma!

Meat and cheese costs $$$. A cake costs 5 bucks to make.

Personally I'd probably eat a tamale before any of those sweets.

Thank god I work with a bunch of men. Most of them hunt/fish or they raise their own food.

So the holiday party this Thursday will consist of venison prepared a few different ways, soupy, chicken parm casserole minus the pasta, baked cod, bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, homemade cheese with meats from the local butcher, prime rib and fried turkey. The only dessert will be apple cheese Danishes that I make during the outages. That was requested by several of the guys. Everyone here are big carnivores they love meat. Makes things so simple and healthy around the holidays.

Apparently there are glitches with OH again since this is what I wrote and not Emiepie.

Right you would think OH had fixed this problem a long time ago. Never the less I will be enjoying some amazing venison tomorrow. I know one guy wraps his roast in bacon. Seriously bacon wrapped venison is so dam good.

That is strange for sure.

ETA: I don't even remember what my reply was....something along the lines of there being plenty of treats here too.

LOL! I was on a committee once with a bunch of women and two men. They assigned two people to bring treats to every meeting. The men kept complaining about all the "girl food" - like bagels, raw veggies and dip, fruit. So when it was their turn, they brought all this crap like Double Stuffed Oreos, herring, and limburger cheese. It was actually kind of funny (and I do think they meant it as a joke!)
