The AARP Bulletin Article

There has probably already been a post on this but those of you who get the AARP Bulletin noticed the weight loss surgery article in the June issue. Unfortunately, all they talked about was the RNY and lapbands. This was a terrible disservice to AARP members for omitting the sleeve and DS. We all know vsg is the best but people can't make decisions without more knowledge. And I believe more than one article has been written to the effect that vsg may be the best option for older patients. Sure was for me.

So I emailed the AARP at  [email protected]  and told them about the vsg and how it should have been in their article since it is especially useful for older patients and gave them links to an article and to OH and such.

So if anyone else noticed this, email the aarp. maybe if enough do they will print an update. I hate to think of people who need wls not investigating it further because they think there are only the two options.

AARP is the American Association of Retired Persons. they find you when you turn 50. big lobby group for seniors. not a weight loss group.  Diane

AARP exists to make the people that run it rich.  They are paid fees by various medical facilities, by insurance companies, etc. for their "endorsement".  They DO NOT represent retired people at all, they represent whatever will put money into their own pockets.
A former Army Medic (1959-1969), Registered Nurse (1969-2000), College Instructor (1984-1989) and a retired Rehabilitation Counselor.  I am also a dual citizen of the USA and Canada.

High Weight 412 lbs.                    Date of Surgery 360.5                                 Present  170 lbs

well they sent me a dumb response saying they were not interested in my idea for a proposed article which was not what I had sent them at all; rather that they needed to correct their incomplete article. So they don't read their mail very well either. Still hated seeing the incomplete information which makes it bad information.   Diane
