What to mix in with your protein shakes?

I am pre-op and I'm trying to get prepared for drinking my protein shakes after surgery.  Right now, I mix the shakes with diet soda and the taste is fantastic.  My favorite is diet root beer and vanilla protein - like a rootbeer float!  Sometimes I make a smoothie out of the shakes, with frozen strawberries, bananas, etc but I know I won't be able to do that immediately after surgery.  My question is - after surgery I won't be able to use the diet soda as a mixer and the shakes are NASTY with only water or milk.  So, what do the rest of you post-ops mix your shakes with?

NO SODA. Most programs have people stop soda, prior to surgery.

You can add protein to SF pudding, soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, almond milk, nonfat or 1% milk, and anything else that you can think of. There are unflavored protein powders available.

Hey, good idea!!

I have a bunch of the unflavored protein and had never thought about mixing it with pudding or cottage cheese or anything.

I will have to give that a try when I get to that point!
On my way!!!!!!

Yes, I get that I'm supposed to avoid soda.  But I'm having trouble finding other tasty mixers in lieu of soda.  I've tried mix and decaf coffee, which are OK but I can't imagine drinking thatt all the time.  I've also tried the SF pudding, which is good for dessert.  So, what other flavor add-ins do you use besides those to add flavor to your shakes?  I like the PB idea but I'm not allowed that yet.  I was thinking maybe Crystal Light... any other suggestions besides that?

I have been experimenting with different flavors of sugar free drinks.

I add the prepared drinks to my smoothie instead of plain water or milk, etc.  For breakfast I had a protein smoothie made with strawberries, canteloupe and banana; mixed with sugar free orange drink.  YUMMM!

I am over 2 years out.  I love my protein smoothies.
