So when can you drink your first alcoholic drink...how much?  How did you feel?  I've had lots of people asking me and I have NO idea what, when and how much!

My Doctor told me that I could drink after 6 months. But he cautioned me that with such a small stomach it would not take much to become intoxicated. He also mentioned to that even small amounts of alcohol could impair my ability to drive. He cautioned me that sometime WLS patients switch addictions. Good luck to you.

My doctor told me moderation in all things. I had my first glass of wine at 4 months out and it did hit me  a bit hard but that's probably because I hadn't had any for a while. But now I can have a glass of wine or two and as long as I take it slowly. You will know when it feels differently and how to handle it.

Always the best wishes, Sue

I had my first drink about 3 months post op.  I wasn't given any guidelines nor did I notice my getting drunk quicker.  One thing I know you have to be VERY careful when drinking alcohol.  I be sure to get a whole glass of water before I go out then I drink water with my drink.  If not, you can get dehydrated.  I do sometimes drink wine but my current favorite drink it Absolute Vodka and Diet Cranberry.  Very very low calorie..and delicious!  The juice is sweetened with splenda so it's yummy.

Good Luck

Check with your doc and NU****ch carefully what effect if has on you - may be different than preop days plus remember that alcoholic beverages for the most part have emply calories and carbs and can hinder your weight loss.

I have had wine the last month or so as I enjoy a glass here and there. I haven't really noticed much difference except that red wine seems stronger to me so I stick to white these days. It probably has slowed my weight loss a bit so you have to make that choice on drinking the calories.

i have been having an occasional drink since 3 months out. My stomach cant take beer any more so i settle with some vodka and cranberry juice. I have one or two drinks when i go out (which is probably 1-2 times a month) and i get a good buzz.
