oh my..ER visit...and then some

Down in SC visiting my parents with my daughter...they decided to have chinese food and stupidly I ate with them!

White Rice...and it almost killed me.

I finished eating at 9:30pm...and by 10:15 I was feeling awful...I tossed and turned for a couple of hours..coulsn't get comfortable..the pain getting worse and worse until I finally woke my mom up at 12:45 bc I knew it was time to head to the hospital.

I was SO lucky..the doctor that saw me..his wife had bariatric surgery and he knew what was going on: The rice was swelling uncontrollably and the entire hospital it seemed moved quicly for me after that. Oxygen on board...IV started..meds pushed within minutes. They purposefully pushed them fast..I ended up puking (which was what I desperate;y needed) and they drew blood..and rushed me to CT scan.

Blockage from the rice could be seen where it pressed against my stomach wall...but more imporantly my bloodwork showed the worse of the night.

Extremely elevated liver enzymes...I was then rushed to Ultrasound where they found gallstones in my gallbladder. Still waitign for my appt with my surgeon to find out what this all means

But dangit..had I not done that extremely stupid thing by eating rice..I wouldn't have caught the liver or gallbladder...which will probably get removed.

I will never so much as look at rice or even mention its name again..but thank god you know? I just had my 6 month checkup a couple of weeks ago and I knew I wasn't doing well taking my vitamins...but My surgeon just said to learn my lesson and start taking them today..because it could be months/ years before you notice any kind of deficiency..but by then I'll be in major trouble...well..apparently I am now lol. Not laughing about it...just pissed I did this to myself.

Anyone else going through this..any words of wisdom?

Oh my gosh! I'm so glad you are ok! Are the gall stones something that happened because you werent taking your vitamins? I think your story is enough to keep me away from white rice for a long time!

Oh my goodness! I am with the others. I will not be trying rice in my new tummy! I am glad you are ok though. I just strted taking my vitamins this week - have to make myself. I am taking the adult gummies from Target. I don't like chewing them so I just kind of suck them to death and then they fall apart. Whatever it takes! Good luck with those stones. I hope that goes well.

So glad you're ok!! That must have been so traumatic.  Things do always work out, like you said.. now they know about your live and gallbladder.  Hopefully you'll be feeling much better real soon. Take care.

Its sooo very common...WLS induced GB removal  Hindsight is 20/20

LMAO...it  WAS NOT the RICE!!  But...you were havin a gallbladder attack!!  OBSTRUCTED DUCT ! PAIN!   Elevated liver enzymes from infection...BILE BACKIN UP BACK INTO YOUR LIVER!! CAUSIN INFECTION!!

yer on anti/bs right for the elevated liver enzymes...INFECTION!

I was scared too! 1.5 strips of bacon...sent me into the ER with a GB attack at 2 YEARS post op!
AT NIGHT!! Remember yer liver is WORKING DOUBLE TIME ...from 10pm to MIDNIGHT...while you sleep ITS WORKIN!!  Most of my supplementin for my liver is at 9pm! chanca piedra, pau de arco, dandelion extract, milk thistle, flax seed oil, vit e.

The FIRST 6 MONTHS post VSG...due to the rapid weight loss phase...our livers are producing 2-3 TIMES the NORMAL CHOLESTEROL!

GALLSTONES  are PRIMARILY CHOLESTEROL!!  You were just a tickin time bomb is all!

IT WASN'T THE RICE!!  I still eat bacon once in a great while...but only cuz I watch my intake of any processed meats...they really are nasty! including lunch, deli turkey nitrate laden ****!
I rarely eat pork, red meat anymore.  Just cuz ^sat fats.  DON'T WANT or NEED EM! I do WANT n NEED MY GALLBLADDER, however!

I walked away from GALLBLADDER SURGERY over a year ago...doin alternative stuff...
Its VERY TIME CONSUMING!! but doable!  flushes, supplementin, and many dietary modifications!
Went from a F-U full of small stones n sludge GB to a GB with a few stones (as of a few months ago) and is like anyone else's my age! No pain, no attacks, no fever!  YAY!!  like I says tho..hard work! time consumin!

EZ on the sat fats...especially PORK and PROCESSED MEATS...sausage, bacon, luncheon n deli, hot dogs i.e..
the list is long...here's a link, if yer interested in preventing attacks that is....  Here's from GALLBLADDER ATTACK.COM
http://www.gallbladderattack.com/gallbladderdiet.shtml#galls tonediet

Much luck!  Another surgery sucks...it is so common tho! Do an OH search " VSG gallbladder" ...MASSIVE amts of info on GB removal n VSG!
