I need help.  I am having trouble getting my required liquids in.  I am one month post op.  When I drink a protien shake, do I count the water used to mix it as a liquid?

That depends on your nutrionist's direction.  Mine happens to say yes my protein drinks count towards my liquids - however I personally opt not to count them towards my liquid intake.

I count everything that isn't caffeinated so protein shake, milk, water, Crystal Light, decaf iced tea.

Thank you!  Maybe I am not as far away from my liquids goal as I thought.

My regular doctor did not agree with the amount my surgeon requested (64 oz per day) - and since I'm not suffering any ill effects from dehydration - I'm doing fine on just 30 per day.
My taste buds changed a lot - food tastes very salty, too sweet, too rich and too spicy compared to what I used to like.  So to get more fluid in - I've been mixing 2-1 OJ or other juice with water.
It tastes less strong and I can drink more of it.
I also found that really cold drinks hurt my sleeve - so usually I let liquids from the fridge sit out a few minutes.
