 hey all,

I'm on my first week of full liquids and have another week to go.  I'm trying to stay strong but I'm really ready for really food.  I've talked about this before on here and I'm doing my best to stay focused (even with the pot luck today at work....broth it was instead lol).  Can anyone give me tips or some ideas that they used to get through this stage? I have a feeling the responses are gonna be minimal cause there isnt much you can do but I thought maybe someone has an idea they did that I would never have thought of.

Thanks again

I told myself that I had the rest of my life to eat solid foods, but only one chance to let my sleeve heal properly.  Stay strong!  You just had most of your stomach removed, and it needs to be rested.

Also, I drank as much as I could possibly handle.  And ate SF popsicles and jello.

I used spices to alter my broth/protein combo.. I had made a bunch of home-made chicken stock.. added protein mix to it (half Unjury chicken flav/half plain) and was burning out on it. Dumped in Franks Red Hot.. satisfied me! Liquid buffalo chicken wings?!? Whatever, it worked. I used Indian spices in plain soup, mixed it up like that.. Not a whole lot you can do until you get past the liquids.. but every bit helps.

Yep, just remember that this is temporary and soon enough you'll be back on normal foods.  Your healing is so very important right now.  Sticking to the liquids could literally make the difference between a severe complication and smooth sailing.

I made sure I had enough of the type of liquids I liked on hand.  I planned out my day the best I could.  ANd I stayed away from stuff/situations I thought would be too tempting.  Pot luck?  No way you would have found me near one.  But again, it's temporary!

Stay strong and hang in there.

VSG on 05/31/11 with
Things I used on my full liquid diet:
Full liquids: fat free cream soup (broccoli cheese was my fav, just blend out the lumps), sugar free pudding thinned out, yogurt thinned out (no seeds or fruit!), milk, sugar free carnation instant breakfast, protein shakes, unflavored protein powder mixed into water with a crystal light packet. And remember you can add unflavored protein powder to almost all of the stuff I mentioned above. *Hint* - As far as the soup goes, I made a can, then froze it in ice cube trays. About two cubes is all I could do at a time. But it made it super easy to just put it in the microwave.

Thanks all for all the tips! I really appreciate them.  I'm glad I found this site cause it has been a Godsend :)

I will keep my head up and take it one day at a time.  I think I need to go back the soups I know I like instead of branching out cause I dont like any of them I've tried lol

11 more days to go ...I can make it :)

As for me,  it was more important in my head to stay on liquids and let my sleeve staple line
heal from surgery than start food and risk me getting pressure full from food and having a
potential leak.  At least this thought worked for me.

I drank every 15 minutes so i was full from liquids, so therefore I didnt want the food.
I am wondering how often when your drinking your protein and water.  So, the question
is,  How often are you drinking water and your protein ( isopure etc) ?????

My suggestion would be drink protein or water every 15 minutes.

I daydreamed of chicken :)  Seriously, I COMPLETELY craved protein when I was on my clears and liquid phase.

One thing that helped me get through that liquid period was to still have "meals", even though they were tiny.  I would put chicken broth in a little bowl, have a tiny plate of sugar free jello.  It made me feel like I was really eating a meal... sort of.

Don't worry, before you know it you'll be on to pureeds and mushies!
