Has my Doctor told me the wrong thing?

Hi all,

I had my sleeve surgery Wednesday 7 December so it has been 9 days. Im very concerned that  my doctor/ dietician has told me the wrong thing. In reading everyones posts it seams like I am rushing the food steps too soon????

This is what I was told and have been following:

days 1 and 2 post surgery - clear liquids
days 3 to 7 - full liquids
days 8 to 11 - pureed food - this is the stage Im on now
days 12 on - soft food.

Is this correct. I read all the blogs and posts and everyone else seams to be still on full liquids for the first 2 weeks post surgery whereas I have been told to go onto pureed food after only 7 days?

Please let me know

Thank you

That was my plan as well, but I skipped pureed foods altogether (eeeuuuuwww) and went to soft foods a little later than the plan said.

Surgeons differ on this. It's not a matter of him telling you wrong, it's that your plan differs from some others.

My doctor has the same kind of "rushed" schedule. I came home on full liquids until I see him 7 days post op, then I go on purees. I think I go on soft foods a month in though. I would do what your doctor says but I also wouldn't rush what your sleeve feels comfortable with.

I would hesitate to call it 'rushed.'  That implies there's something wrong with it. That's not the case. The Cornell University plan for example, is very simlar.  The general advice is to follow the guidelines BUT to only advance your diet only as fast as you are comfortable. The time tables are guidelines.

I can't remember exactly, but I think that was my plan, as well.  Different doctors do different things.  Listen to your doctor, but listen to your stomach, as well.  You will know if you aren't ready.

This was my plan from my doctor as well.

My surgeon skipped the full liquid stage after I passed all the leak tests.  I went home on puréed and will advance to soft next week.

looks about right to me :-)

I'd say take it slower if you're uncomfortable, I don't think playing it safe can hurt as long as you are getting your protien/water goals.
