a back handed compliment
Yesterday I was shopping in a small, local grocery store with my 13 year old. As anyone with a 13 year old knows, she'd much prefer to point out my faults than to compliment me. I saw her go in the opposite direction from me and then quickly come over to me. She said she was looking for me and that I went by her and she didn't know it was me because of how skinny I was and she thought I was some "old man over there". I thanked her and looked at the "old man", who didn't look so old to me, but was of normal size. Even though she thought I was some old man, not her very young (choke, choke, LOL) mom, her observation made my day!
My daughter told me that I don't look so fat anymore.
Gee thanks kiddo! Hope you like your rocks for Christmas!

It's nice to know that we're not alone in our adventures with our teens! Mine was a pill last night to the point that she gave me back her Christmas presents from under the tree because I dared to say no about something she wanted me to buy. She did apologize later and it came out that her friend got what she wanted plus more. Oh I am sooooo glad not to be her age again!!! I just cringe at the memories!
