Going in for an Upper GI tomorrow morning since I'm having pain in my shoulder since surgery last Wed (12/21). After I looked up what the procudure is I'm nervous a little! More than my surgery because I'll be awake while a tube goes down my throat. (*gulp*). Any tips on getting through it easier?

Are you having a procedure with endoscopy?  If so, they will be giving you medicine to relax you and you won't really remember anything.

I thought an upper GI generally referred to an x-ray with barium swallow (like a leak test after surgery), but I could be wrong.

sounds like you're having an edoscopy. upper gi is where they make you swallow that nasty white stuff.

Endoscopies are a piece of cake.  A little "Milk of Amnesia" and you wake up as if nothing happened.

Not sure if you are having and upper GI or an endoscopy, but I just had both last week.  They are both a piece of cake.  For the upper GI, I just had to drink some liquid and they took xrays of my abdomen.  For the endoscopy, they put me to sleep and I woke up.  I just had a sore throat for about 2 days, but no biggy.  Praying for you :)
