Just wondering... How long post op were you told to wait on alcohol? I'm no lush, I'd just like a glass of wine once in a while.

Thoughts?

My plan says 2 years, but I know that is longer compared to what others have said on here.  From what I've heard, it's just better overall to wait until you are maintaining, b/c all alcohol is is empty calories.

My plan says to abstain for 6 months. Personally, I don't see the point in wasting the calories during the WL phase. Even wine is a boat load of calories with no nutritional value. Of course, I can see how a glass of wine might be worth the expenditure for others - just not for me.

I was able to start drinking after 2 months.  And I am sure I have more than I should.  It's probably slowed down my weight loss some, but I gave up Coke, I'm not giving up the Rum!

I had a little wine on New Years which was 1 month out for me. Did not have anything harder till 3 months out. I do not drink often(2-4 times a year) but have a hell of a tolerance still. I lost weight both weeks I drank, just remember up you water so you don't retain

My plan says never again. Same with chocolate. Obviously, that is not going to work. The big warning came about beer or champagne. Anything with bubbles could stretch the sleeve. So I have had some wine, and a martini. No bad effects. Although, went Iate the olive my internal warning went off....Now you cannot have a sip of water for half an hour!

I waited until 6 months post op... added back a drink or two per month... weight loss was already slowing down, but slowed down even more... so gave it up again and will wait until goal.  As others have said, it is empty calories, slows down weight loss... and could lead to transfer addiction.  I want to reach goal WAY MORE than I want a drink or two.  It's all about choices!
