Chronic Exhaustion
Hi all,
I was exhausted on my first day back to work (Monday), which I expected, but dealt with. Yesterday I was tired in the afternoon, yawned all through my anniversary dinner with my husband, came home from dinner and left my husband "high and dry" if you know what I mean, opting (out of what felt like necessity) to go to sleep at 9:30. I got a solid 9.5 hours of sleep, but by 1pm this afternoon I was ready for bed again. What is up with that?! I talked to my coworker who is going to have WLS in August and she asked about my vitamins. I said I was taking them all. She asked what about B12? I told her I get a monthly shot. I looked back in my calendar for when I last saw this metabolic doctor, it was exactly a month ago tomorrow, also the day of my follow up with her. I asked my husband, the pharmacist, if he thought my last B12 shot had worn off and my body was ready for another one. He said that could be part of the problem, but isn't sure if it's all of the problem.
I'm writing to see if anyone else had a similar experience? And also, when and how will it go away? I can't function at work like this. I can't function at all being this tired. Help!
Jennie

How far out are you? I was EXHAUSTED for the first 6 weeks. Like first trimester exhausted. I'd make my daughter lay down with me and take a nap almost every day. Then at about 5.5 weeks it just went away. LOVELY. I do find that if I forget to take my D3 (I've always been low) i'll get even more tired but for me time just fixed it.

It took me about 3.5 months to get my energy back after surgery. I am 10 months out this weekend coming and hit a very exhaustion state about 2 months ago so had some blood work drawn and I am borderline hypothyroidism I guess. So I will have it rechecked in three months and if my numbers drop again my dr said he will be putting me on some kind of medication. I said as long as it doesn't cause me to gain weight. This week now I am practically falling asleep at my work desk and needing to sleep my lunch break away. I am taking a day off tomorrow to try and get some rest, yay a vacation day for some sleep!! I was tempted to go back to the dr last night to see if there was anything I could take because I was totally wiped out. I hope the day of rest tomorrow helps me for the weekend, tired of not being able to do much. Maybe my work just bores me lol
I'm right about where you are. Afternoons have been killer for me, and I've taken a few naps. Today is the first day I've felt really energetic. If you're keeping your carbs low, you may be experiencing switchover effects of ketosis. If that's the cause, it should pass soon as you adapt to the low carb situation.

jubjub, I googled what you just said and that makes a lot of sense. I've never heard of this before though. My carbs are extremely low because I'm not eating much of them at all. Everything I had is no-sugar added and I was told to avoid bread, rice and pasta for 6 mos. I had mashed potatoes last week, but not since then. I will definitely ask my doctor about this tomorrow. Thanks!
I was just reading a bit more, and for those on a very low carb diet it's very possible you're not getting enough sodium. Sodium seems to be flushed from the body when we stop eating carbs. The author's suggestion is to drink 1-2 cups of boullion per day if you're fatigued to see if that helps.
If it's your first time in Keto-Land :) the adaptation takes a bit longer, I have heard, but your body is meant to switch over and this is what burns the fat so agressively.

It took me a good 4 months not to feel fatigued. I take all my vitamins and they even drew some blood work early at one of my postop visits due to the fatigue but it looked good. I finally got over it but I still will have a day here and there where I am just beat for no obvious reason.

I am really exhauted as well. Cannot not stand up very long on my feet. Not sleeping well because of the gas. Sleeping up in a chair right now. It really bothers me that I cannot walk very much. Calling dr tomorrow to make post op appointment and will mention my fagiue. My legs will not keep me up for long.
