How much is recommended? My surgeon didn't say anything about it but I need to protect me hair.

I'm curious too. My surgeon didn't even recommend this but based on the boards I have been reading quite a bit about those who suggest it. I've been taking it twice a day.

I took biotin from day 1...thinking I was going to be one of the ones that didn't get hair loss....I am sorry to say it didn't work.  I would just make sure that you get all of your protein in.  Also..when my hair did start to thin out...I started the hair and nail vitamins at GNC...and I do think they work.  It does come back but be prepared..it usually happens.  But so worth it.

I take 5000 mg also. I'm two months out and haven't had any trouble yet but I think its usually about 3 months out when it starts

Just a warning, when you take biotin it makes ALL of your hair grow quicker, not just the hair on your head. I didn't know that and I thought I was turning in to a man...

Ha, I think its making all the hair EXCEPT what's on my head grow faster.  I am already starting to see some hair loss.  When is the Biotin supposed to kick in?  I started taking mine about a week after surgery.  I had smaller amounts before surgery, but not the 5000 some recommend.

Also, has anyone heard that Ginko Biloba can increase bloodflow to the scalp, thereby helping with the hair loss/regrowth cycle?

All biotin does is promote hair growth. You will still lose your hair but biotin will make it so that when it does start growing back, it will grow back faster. A lot of people are under the impression that it stops hair loss but it doesn't. Nothing is going to stop the hair loss.

Oh I wish I owned stock in biotin! But in all honestly it makes no difference with hair loss, it may or may not help new hair growth but that is up for debate. Google telogen effluvian for and explanation of surgical hair loss. It will happen or not but just depends on you not what you take. I've had over a dozen surgeries and never lost hair, good thing cause I don't have a whole lot to spare. I also know people who have only had one surgery and are worried they may need a wig. You can take it if you want but it probably won't make any difference. Good luck with your surgery!!!
