I don't know if this has been touched on before or not, but I was wondering if there is a reason a person that has had VSG would need to wear a medical alert bracelet like say a diabetic would wear. Thanks. Bob

Not that I am aware of but my office gave me a medical alert card that stated I had this surgery.  On the other side of the card it asks that restaurants let me order half or a child's menu.

Jackie-

I would like to know more about this card?!? I was 6 days post op when the family & I had to eat out due to being out of town for a funeral, I just asked very nicely if I could not be charged for the Buffett, because I had just had surgery. The lady was very nice, and only charged me for my drink.

In the future, I can see the need for this.

Thanks,

Cheryl

Yes there was a post about this before that I have seen. I am toying with getting one that says that I have had a partial gastrectomy and no blind NG tube should be inserted and caution abt NSAIDs use.

Medical alert bracelets are to warn about life-threatening conditions. With your Sleeve, you're really not in any danger from an NG tube, and 99% of the time, they want you AWAKE when they insert one. (And trust me, you'd rather NOT be awake...*grin*) They're also not very likely to give you NSAIDs while you're unconscious.

Not really. You actually have a pretty normal anatomy post-VSG. I, on the other hand, have a DS. I've considered getting "DS inside" tattooed on my stomach. (*grin*)

My surgeon actually REQUIRED me to show up to the hospital the day of my surgery with a medical ID. Better safe than sorry. Mine just says:

MY NAME

VERTICAL SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY

NO BLIND NG TUBES

NO NSAIDS

ICE - MY HUSBANDS PHONE NUMBER
