Hi, all. Chiming in with my monthly progress update. In month 4 I lost 10 pounds. I am pleased with that. Since day of surgery I've lost about 63 pounds. Since my all time high weight, I've lost about 81 pounds. Woo-hoo! I feel great and am enjoying exercise. Even started seeing a trainer once a week to make sure I do some muscle building exercise (I'm not good about strength training without a coach...cardio I'm fine).

The best news is that my insulin is in check. I had a raging case of insulin resistance prior to surgery. I still see a nutritionists every other week and she compared my blood work from back in June (pre-op) to blood work done in November and you would not believe the change in my insulin numbers. My original insulin number was 55.9, unbelievably high, and I was even on Metformin. To give you a frame of reference, the normal range is 3-19. Guess what my insulin is now. ........ It's 5. FIVE. That's it. What an amazing drop, especially considering I have not taken Metformin since surgery. My blood glucose has always been within the normal range, but even that has gone down some, which indicates I am not inching towards diabetes like I was before. I still have bad days every so often, but that's just life. I am so thankful for getting the sleeve because I feel like I have my life back. I know it's trite, but it's true! My goal is to get to 199 by the end of the calendar year and I think I can do it.

Are there any other August sleevers out there? How are you doing?

At NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in NYC, they are doing clinical research to test VSG as a CURE for some forms of Type II Diabetes - what you're experiencing is actually a side effect of the surgery.

My insulin went down from 64 to 8!! I was SO THRILLED! I feel so awesome. I also noticed that I am actually ovulating. The insulin resistance made me infertile, and now that is gone too. VSG is one of the best things I've ever done!

CONGRATS!

Me, too! My cycle has returned to near normal since surgery, which is amazing considering prior to surgery I could go for months and months without.
