Question about stomach viruses
So is it easier or harder for us to catch these dreaded things with VSG? Or is it the same? One of the kids that is regularly at my house came down with it and now I'm a nervous wreck about getting it. First of all, I can't afford the time off work, and second......I am scared to death to throw up with my new tummy!!
My fear exactly! But my daughter is just over a very bad bout of gastric enteritis, with diarrhea and vomiting that lasted an entire week! My grand baby and I are vulnerable!! It seems to be making its rounds as per the Doctors feedbac****eping my fingers crossed, so far there is no sign that she passed it on and she is fine now!
I think we get them just the same as before - no easier or more difficult. The one exception would be right after surgery when our immune systems are weaker then it would be easier...
I have found when I do get a stomach virus I don't throw up now - it usually comes in the form of getting the trots. Wash your hands a lot and sanitize all the surfaces (door nobs etc).
I did get the stomach virus a little over a month out thanks to the lovely petri dish that is daycare and it swept through all three of us. The biggest thing to make sure of is that you are getting in your liquids. What I was told by the Dr was not to worry about protein or anything else but be sure to get the fluids in because it's likely you can lose them much faster then you can put them back at this point. Don't be afraid of sipping gatoraide even though it has more calories and sugar because you'll probably not be getting much from anywhere else. I also found out after the fact when I went for one of my follow ups with the surgeon that I could have called them and they would have called my local Dr to set me up on some outpatient IV to help hydrate me. It was hard because even after the stomach bug part went away I was still very weak for a couple of days so it hit me longer then the rest of the family.
