I have been having numbness in my belly and leg area for about a week. I was wondering if this has something to do with surgery or if it was something else. I went to the Dr. and he said that he felt like it was due to surgery .

I have a little numbness on my right leg, on the outside of my thigh. Very localized. I saw the neurologist yesterday (planned visit for migraine follow up) and asked her about it. I have a history of a back injury that if I lay on my back, causes numbness -- of course, surgery is on your back, then I was sleeping sitting up, etc.

So after a few questions, she thinks it's temporary and caused by bruising of the nerves, and that over time it will improve as the nerve heals.  I can't recall exactly what it is called medically.  But she said even if they thought it could be something else related to my back, etc., the treatment would still be the same -- watch and wait.   I also don't have any weakness, etc. So for now, I'm assuming the nerves are just bruised.

I see my surgeon next week, and I will bring it up there as well.

I have left leg numbness in the thigh area and it has progressed to my foot....mine is definitely due to back problems. If possible talk to your surgeon and try to get an appt with a good neurologist. they are the best resource for this type of problem. Of course listen to your surgeon first it could be surgery related. Good luck I hope it is temporary for you.

Also -- my neurologist said the nerves could have been bruised during the surgery.  So it is possible that numbness is from the surgery, not just from me laying on my back during the surgery.  Hopefully, it will get better without any other intervention!
