MFP and adding exercise....

I used MFP for a few years prior to my VSG and always added my exercise in, which gave me more calories to eat.  Now after surgery I continue to use MFP to track my food, but really am watching Protein and Carbs closely.  For those of you that use MFP, do you add your exercise in daily as well and see an increase in calories to intake?  I added it in, but never increase what I am taking in.  Just curious to see what was working for others.

I used MFP religiously before surgery, now I post my activities and go for fitness support on Fitocracy. Since I'm not going to eat back calories I burn off through exercise MFP is really only good as a food tracking tool for me.

I don't use MFP for exercise either - but would never increase my intake to compensate for exercise no matter how I track it. On a related note, I know my body (and likely yours) doesn't use nearly as many calories thru exercise as charts or machines indicate. Of course I use some - but my body just doesn't burn fuel well.

I haven't increased my intake since the surgery.  It worked for me prior, but didn't want to now.  I used a health meter that measured my calories burned rather than using the grids of machines....they are usually way wrong.  :)

I only track food on MFP -- I find the increased calorie info annoying and tempts me to eat a little more!

Yes and no.  I always add in my exercise because I like to look at the trends over a week or month or what have you.  It helps me keep tabs on patterns creeping in that are not so good or patterns that are improving.  I never consciously say that I am going to eat back the calories, but every so often it happens.  Keep up with the exercise because I feel very strongly that I would have never made it to goal if I didn't start regularly exercising.  My body just plain needs it!

Maybe I am too early in the post op stage but I can't figure out how to track food. Maybe because I am in purees so I assume what I am eating isnt in there? I feel like I need to make a list of everything I am eating (by the tablespoon) so I can track it that way myself. I am curious how everyone else does it. Most nutrition information isnt broken down by tablespoons so I have to break down the measurements even further.

Any advice? PM me please! My name is MsJexi on MFP as well

Jessica,

I just started using MFP and I am amazed at how much is in their data bank!  Just search whatever you're eating, and there are ways around the amounts.  If say you put in cottage cheese, and the option is a cup, and you only ate 1/4 a cup, on the servings part I enter .25 servings.  And just as an example, they have 1% cottage cheese, 2%, 4% differentiated by name brands, store brands, grocery store chains, everything!!!  It is really comprehensive.  I cannot imagine not being able to find what you are looking for.  They have my Jay Robb protein in there, with each flavor even!  Play around with it, you will be pleasantly surprised!
