One year ago today I started my weight loss journey- today I shopped for size SMALL!

I started my weight loss journey one year ago today. I started dieting in advance of my VSG, which was on June 28th. I lost over 30 pounds preop, and I have lost 84 pounds in 8 1/2 months post op. I started at a size 2X/3X and size 24 pants. I am now wearing a size medium or small and pants size 10-12. It is so wonderful to shop for clothes now!  My wardrobe is chic and stylish and flattering! (and much of it is from Goodwill) Clothes fit waaaayyyy better in smaller sizes. I feel and look younger.

I am now below my surgeon's goal for me, which was 169, but I am not done yet! I want to lose 20 more pounds. I am confident I can do it.  My goal is to lose those pounds before my one year surgery date. I am in a routine with my sleeve. The weight tends to come off in a stairstep pattern, with stalls and then 3-4 pounds lost in a few days.  I still drink protein shakes every day and eat a greek yogurt .I get at least 100g of protein every day.  I am staying low carb because that works for me.  I am starting to experiment more with different foods.

So far I have had few problems. My blood pressure was really low the first couple of months. I was also very fatigued for those couple of months, but now I have plenty of energy. My labs were excellent except that I was low in iron (mistakenly taking a multivitamin without iron) and my protein was a little low. My doctor advised me to eat more red meat and I have, since I was mainly eating chicken.

I don't regret getting the VSG at all. I am looking forward to being thin for the rest of my life! It makes life easier in so many ways. I love being able to sit with my legs crossed!  I could go on and on about all of the NSVs I have had.....

This forum has been invaluable. I work 60 hours a week so I don't have time to post much, but I do check in every day. Thanks to all of you who have posted advice and suggestions and even scolds. While they weren't aimed at me, I absorbed it all and it contributed to my success.

So good to hear your story from those of us just starting out! Congrats!

I'm 2nd week post-op and have some low blood pressure problems (Saw the doc) . Very low energy- gotta check my vitamins for iron. I know I got to heal and get my protein in!!

Good luck on those last few pounds!

That is so awesome!  Congrats on a great year!  Let me know if you want to have coffee some time - not enough Twin Cities VSGers around - I had to meet Julia in New York a couple weeks ago when she was over from Europe.

That would be great!  Send me a pm and we can set something up. Spring is almost here, the snow will be melting, and I will come out of hibernation!
