Pouch? What pouch and why would I be testing it?

Would someone please explain the point of the "5 day pouch test" for someone with a sleeve?

According to what I've read on other boards it's to measure how much my pouch has stretched since surgery.

Since I don't HAVE a pouch, and my sleeve will only stretch long term if I chronically abuse it, why would I want to shovel in cottage cheese at high speed (ouch!) in order to see how much I can cram in? (Shovelling ANYTHING in at high speed is sleeve abuse)

Of course my sleeve will hold more than it did at 3 months, and it held more then than immediately post-op. It'll undoubtedly let me eat a bit more at a meal by a year. Those aren't bad things.

Immediately post-op a tablespoon of yogurt was too much. At 3 months I couldn't eat an egg. By a year I hope to be able to comfortably enjoy 3-4 ounces of chicken and 1/2 cup of veggies. (right now I can eat 1/2 of that) I'm never going to be able to eat my old "normal" amount, which was pretty much the point of having the surgery, yes? Well, that and getting rid of the constant screaming hunger that plagued me.

So - why do a test that has absolutely no relevance to my situation?

Edit - a few helpful people gave me more info and it sounds like it has some usefulness. I still don't like the name much, but I can be an adult and get over that.

It's a silly test and not really a test. I would ignore it.

Yes.  Good for you to ignore especially as a pre-op.

Those that say it cannot be done should get out of the way of those doin it!...a chinese proverb

Since you asked

The 5DPT is GREAT....beats bellyachin about NO restriction, Ive stretched out my stomach, I can't detox off carbs, get in ketosis, get past this stall...blah blah blah. 5 days only! and when you are in a panic and graspin at straws, lookin at another surgery...that 5DPT can be a godsend. Same with the CCT..cottage cheese test.

So it ain't a tool for you..so its stupid for you...SO WHAT...move along!

There are a gozillion tools Ive used post op. Japan's /Japanese Hara Hachi Bu..."undereating our sleeve's capacity" is a tool, Recipes..are tools. Protein supps are tools, dieting i.e. high protein/low carb: are tools , supplements are tools, medications like PPIs are tools...peeps here use em as appetite suppressants..like speed...so they don't get hungry...even tho they have NO GERD.

Tools I use don't mean jack squat to YOU. Why would they.

I wouldn't put you down for shoveling piles of animal flesh down your throat either.  why would I. That's really stupid to me!

Pouch=stomach or whats left of it.  Usually a term only bariatric surgeons use in describing our VSG stoma***** this forums sponsor Dr Cirangle. If I see a VSGr call our stomach "a pouch" ..first thing I ask em is...are you a bariatric surgeon perchance!

Let go of the  at others. Worry about YOU! ...like my mama said...for every finger you point...there's 3  pointin backatcha!  I wouldn't be surprised if one day...you get seriously curious about the CCT or 5DPT.
