Butter?

What do most of you use for butter or butter substitute?  I am in the maintenance phase and trying to find something that is healthy that I can use now and again in small quantities.  I know that they say you should have partially hydrogenated stuff but beyond that I don't know what the healthiest choice would be.

Any ideas?

I will only ever use butter.  Everything else tastes fake to me.  I use it so infrequently and in such small quantities these days, that it really doesn't add much to my numbers, so I'd rather have the real stuff and enjoy it! :)

Hands down, butter over margarine.  Margarine is far, far worse for you.  The savings in calories is not worth it.  A better choice is to substitute olive oil when possible.

Count me in as someone who will also use butter rather than margerine.

I use olive oil for anything savory and butter for anything else.  I don't use much butter anymore.  I also use smart balance for my husband who has to watch his fat intake.

If you look at the labels,   the low fat/calorie stuff is really not that low fat/calorie.  There is hardly any difference at all other that one being natural and the other being God knows what. I use the Irish butter in the green package, so good.

Fairly liberal grass-fed butter user here.. in maint. Kerry Gold is easy to find.

I also use on a daily basis, depending on the food I'm making (high or low-heat) or topping: coconut oil (refined, no coconut smell, and raw-yum coconut flavor!), coconut butter, macadamia nut oil, and good real olive oil- be aware, most olive oil on the shelves isn't really good tasting some are even not totally olive oil (safflower & rapeseed are common add-ins in low-cost supermarket oils)- be careful of your choice- long story on that one..)

The best olive oil domestically I can find is California Olive Ranch (two qualities- one is great for drizzling ($$) one for light low-heat cooking.

I avoid all vegetable oils,  seed oils, canola oil and blends. The oils above are the only ones I have and use on daily basis.
