Blood clot issues?

A friend who got her sleeve six months ago told me her clinic routinely has their patients give themselves injections of blood thinner for 30 days after surgery. She said that since they started that, they have had absolutely zero issues with blood clots.

The odd thing is after over a year of reading these boards I don't recall anybody ever mentioning probs with blood clots, or taking injections to avoid them.

Anybody?

Not as unusual as it sounded then. Thanks!

I had a hysterectomy in April 2008. Received standard blood thinners. By September I developed a blood clot so big it almost killed me. Unknown to everyone, I have a genetic mutation in my blood. My kids inherited it too! We all see a hematologist and have a list of "high risk situations" when to use the injection at home. After my vsg, I had the hospital's blood thinner. My surgeon received a letter from my hematologist recommending. I do self-shots at home for a month.

There are lab tests to detect what I have. I could have had a bc or stroke long time ago if I was on "the pill". But I didn't use the pill. My girls cannot be on the "pill".

Don't play with blood clots.

I'm so glad they found your problem in time for you--and now, for your girls.

I had three or four heparin injections post op. my surgeon said it is a tradeoff between further injections and preventing blood clots and risking internal bleeding of the staple line...coz the blood thins everywhere...not just where clots can form...or no injections, no risk of internal bleeds and walking to prevent clots. I opted for walking.
