Twelve Weeks Since Surgery and a NSV

Today marks 12 weeks since my surgery and I had my 3 month follow up with my surgeon yesterday  I've lost 77 lbs all together including pre op diet.  My blood work came back perfect and my pressure was 118/62.   I feel great!  I'm exercising everyday and find it relatively easy to follow my plan.  However, I have found that the veteran's are right when they say the sleeve is a tool not a miracle.  Making the right choices is key to the success I've had so far.  I won't lie, it's been a struggle, especially at night not to reach for a bag of chips or my favorite, Cheese Doodles.  I also at times find it difficult to come up with new and exciting food choices.  I love chicken, turkey and fish but sometimes I get a little bored.  A small price to pay though as far as I’m concerned.

Perhaps because I was a self payer or maybe because after 60 years of being obese I find my motivation lies in the fact that I don’t take this surgery lightly.  I’ve changed my body internally forever.  Now, it’s time to change it externally forever as well.  I know it’s early for me and in the coming months my weight loss will slow.  I look to keep my motivation and not slide back into old habits.

Now for the NSV.  Before my surgery, I struggled getting dressed for work every morning trying to find clothes that fit and weren’t too small.  Now I struggle to find clothes that fit that aren’t too big.  Pretty cool.

Awesome NSV!!!  I was amazed how quickly I was going thru sizes.  It was weird though since I had to lose about 40 pounds before I even dropped a size.  I think I was kidding myself that I was a size 22 when I really was a size 24 maybe?  I was out of plus sizes in no time.

You've had a fantastic first 12 weeks, get it!!!  kiss

Rms928, you've done fantastically well--how exciting!  I was glad to see you mention being obese for 60 years because I've been a little concerned about having surgery at 58.  I know a lot of people in their 30s who have had it recently, but nobody my age!

And Shagdoll, like you, I think I've been lying to myself about my size--I'm also wearing 22s, but usually from Catherine's, where they run larger!  I think it will take me a lot of pounds for my first size change also, but can't wait!

I hear ya -  I'm six months out and have lost 180 lbs since the beginning.  I've had my clothes altered twice and have now just decided to go out and buy new.  The bigger folks getting stuff from the thrift stores and Goodwill will be happy as I donated all of it.  I too just had my labs done again and my A1C was 5.7.  Yes, 5.7.  That's pretty good considering I was at 9.4 when I started this.  And blood pressure is now back to normal as well.  No more pills!!!

The food part is hard but I think since you and I are both self pays it might help just a bit knowing what it cost and continues to cost.  The tool is working so far.

Cheers,

John

Congratulations on a job well done Rms928 & Bigdobs.  You two self pay guys are kicking sleeve butt

Alajane we are never to old to make changes

There is an over 50 board here that was active, mostly there are just a few ladies left.  I miss the guys and when it was more weight loss geared.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.
