Morning everyone.....I am almost 4 weeks postoperative and a bad habit snuck in for a moment last evening.....I ate on program all day and had no problem, was advanced to soft foods this past Friday. Well last night after getting ready for bed I went into the kitchen and had a small tablespoon of apple pie that was sitting on the counter, then 1/2 glass of skim milk, then drank some water after brushing my teeth....about a half hour later while laying in bed reading I had excruciating pain in my upper abdomen, could not sit down or lay down...went into the bathroom thinking I had to go to the bathroom....looked in the mirror and I was pale and sweaty and dizzy.....the pain was similar to what I had 12 years ago with a gallbladder attack(then gallbladder removed) had a hard time catching my breath and talking.....I thought I was going to the hospital but I continued to walk in the house....finally it went away....I was soon scared and scared my husband half to death also(although he was snoring away while I was walking ) I have a call into my doctors just to report it but I certainly have learned my lesson! As a former supervisor would say...."Lesson learned" .....and I threw away the rest of the pie....I have done well resisting everything else in the house but I stupidly bought this for company......thanks for listening to my rant.....

Sounds like you crashed from the sugar in the pie. It may have been from laying down too quick but my guess would be the sugar.

yep, I agree, my guess is you had a small dumping reaction to the sugar. Dumping is less common in VSG but it has been reported to happen. I get a similar rush when I have eaten a little too much or too fast, heart racing, feeling flushed. Best not to have desserts during weight loss. You didn't take these drastic measures only to continue old habits. Take care of yourself.

Oh wow sorry you went through that. Your attack does sound like my gallbladder attack too, I remember not being able to sit or lay down.

Good luck, I hope everything is ok!

Wow.  Sorry to hear you had a bad reaction to the pie.  It does sound like dumping syndrome.  I hope you are feeling better.  The good news is that this will probably help you stay on track in the future.

best wishes,

Carol
