Question for Women only
Hey everyone. Ok I'm about to get a little personal..... YIKES.
So my VSG is next Tuesday 9-17, and my doctor wanted me to stop my birth control to help prevent DVT post surgery. So I stopped my BC on this past Saturday in hopes that I would start my period early, as it was scheduled to start on my surgery date. I am very regular and start my period after 2 days with no BC. Well I'm on my liquid/reduced calorie pre-op diet and yep you guessed it....no period yet. I know that hormones play a part and change with quick weight loss. I have lost 7lbs in 8 days on my pre-op diet. I'm afraid I'm going to start my period on the operating table. As only my luck would have it LOL. Has anyone experienced this? Any advice or comments are appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Veronica
I was at the tail end of mine for my surgery. Apparently my nerves made me almost a week late. Since rescheduling wasn't an option, I simply made sure I used the bathroom right before, to ahem, take care of business, and had a stock of unmentionables in my bag, since I didn't wear any undergarments for my hospital stay.
abbylouwho...
Thanks for the advice. My bag is packed with the "essentials" just in case. LOL There is no way I'm going to reschedule for this little inconvenience. The only part I hate, is that I work as a Respiratory Care Practitioner at my hospital. We are retired Army so choosing another hospital was not an option. So I know the people but I am able to choose the one's I trust to take care of me....still a little embarrassing.
If you have started on surgery day, let the admitting nurse know. They can give you a pair of disposable undies and a pad if you press it. I had that issue with another surgery date a few years ago and the nurses were very kind and got me all fixed up.

This happens way more often than one might think. They know what to do. Mention it to the nurse when being admitted, and she will give you one of the mesh panties (maybe) with a pad. They might not give you anything, and if you start, will help you clean up afterwards. Seriously, this is probably the tamest thing that they will encounter that day.

I actually started my period in the middle of my liquid diet. I still had my period when I had the surgery but lucky for me mine have always been light. I would not worry about it because it is not that big of a deal. The surgeon and all the nurses you come in contact with you understand that you are a woman and that is a natural thing for a women to do. I never told them I had it because I am so light but I would say if you have a heavy one to at least inform them so they don't think you are bleeding internally, lol.
