Medicine to stop using>???

Hello to all!

I have a question in regards to birth control pills..Has anyone here been told to discontinue their bc pills before surgery? It is an everyday pill..

They told me to keep taking it...even the day of surgery and the day after. No issues!!

My surgeon told me to stop taking 2 weeks prior to surgery and still has me off of them. Mine are daily pills also. I live in Peyton, Colorado and our elevation is very high and we are at a greater risk for DVT and PE for that reason. Just ask your surgeon what their reason is. Good luck!!

I was also told to stop them at least 2 weeks prior because of DVT risk. Seeing that this is a pretty serious risk, I'd say ASK YOUR SURGEON on this one.

I also was taken off mine two weeks pre-op.  The PA told me that they like to give a one month break from them to decrease DVT risk.  I was happy to come off it since as a nurse I know the risks.  

I am on Bc pills (daily) as well and my surgery is exactly 2 weeks from today and my surgeon didn't tell me either way, yikes! I think i will call first thing tomorrow Thank you so much for posting this

Thank you all, I went ahead and asked and he stated I would be fine if i continued to use them.
