Day 2 of pre-op liquid diet... variety and beating the "hunger"?
My surgery is scheduled for November 11 - just 12 days! Having just started my liquid pre-op diet yesterday, I have been trying to stick with the list of "allowable" foods, but it doesn't seem to leave a whole lot of room for creativity or appetitie satisfaction!
So - I'm hoping to hear some suggestions from others who have been there -
Currently, I have a few different flavors of the protein shakes my Dr. suggested (learning quickly which ones are not so tasty!), drinking quite a bit of water (and coffee - was suggested to ward off headaches), and had some low fat cream of mushroom soup today (Dr. said was ok).
I'm thinking something that is a bit thicker (oatmeal without any sugar, for example, is on the list).
Give it another day or two, and you'll be amazed at how suddenly easy it is. I went from starving to "Meh, I guess I could eat" after about 4 days on the liquid diet.
I did protein shakes, a variety of cream soups, yogurts, sugar free puddings. Get popsicles and fudgesicles (sugar free) for sweet cravings.
I wasn't hungry by the end, but I was just plain sick of the same old stuff over and over again. That was the hard part. But, in truth, within a couple days of the surgery I didn't care if I ate at all.
I think the pre-surgery liquid diet is the hardest part. The good side is that it doesn't last that long. You just decide to do it, and wait it out.
You'll be so happy when you start losing weight and see the pounds decrease.
best of luck,
Carol
