What does it feel like the first time you drink

I'm curious if anyone can describe the sensation of the first sip after surgery. I've heard some people saying that it burned for up to a week.

I experienced discomfort, like a tightening feeling. It doesn't have to be so bad, try taking the smallest sips possible after surgery so you can gauge better.

It never burned or hurt me. It was just a little uncomfortable/weird. I took super small sips and could feel it going into my sleeve. There was a weird gurgling like sound & feeling. It's hard to explain.  It's gotten better for me at two weeks out, but I still feel it sometimes. Just way more mild.

It didn't burn me. It felt tight if I took too big a sip. Take very small sips. It doesn't have to hurt.

the first week after surgery i was drinking normally, but i ended up irritating my esophagus, it started hurting in my chest after a while.  then i had to revert to tiny sips for the next 5 weeks, now at 9 weeks i drink normally again.  i keep having to 'live and learn' with these mistakes (i also have to learn to eat slower too).

Hi,

I didn't have any pain or burning from drinking.  I took tiny sips, and I could only take a couple sips before I was full.  If I ate or drank too much it would be uncomfortable, but other than that, it wasn't any big deal.  So don't borrow trouble.  Assume it'll be fine and it probably will.

best wishes,

Carol

It didn't burn and I had no pain at all. The only problem I had was I wasn't hungry and didn't want to drink anything. But I knew I had to. So I forced down small sips. Then it got easier with just about each passing day to get down my liquids.

I didn't have any problems drinking water after surgery. The stomach swelling did restrict the volume of my intake but it got better every day.
