Hey VSGers,

I was wondering if you can provide some encouraging words on how you made it through your 2 week liquid diet before surgery.  I know to get to the awesome end results you need to work hard, but man the thought of 2 weeks and no food is going to feel like 2 years... Especially with Thanksgiving around the corner...  Also, what protein shakes do you like.

Thanks,
~Bridget

I had 100% success drinking only the chocolate. I couldn't hold any of the others in. Good luck!

I absolutely LOVE Syntrax Nectar Vanilla Bean Torte. It's just a nice vanilla that I add different flavors too (like ice cubes made out of chai tea!). I get it from Amazon, since it qualifies for "Prime" benefits, but I've also gotten it at the Vitamin Shoppe (a few dollars more expensive). I haven't tried any of the other Nectar flavors yet, but I also really liked Syntrax Matrix flavors (particularly Mint Cookie or Cookies & Cream), but I have become lactose intolerant since surgery and had to go with the Nectars because they are lactose free.

Before surgery, I used Muscle Milk RTD (Ready to Drink) Vanilla, but couldn't tolerate it post op. It suddenly tasted funny, and also made me sick (from the lactose).

My best advice would be to get SAMPLE SIZES before you commit to buying the "bargain tub". I made the mistake of buying the huge size of a few that I ended up not liking (can we say "Unjury"??) and had to chuck the whole thing. Places like Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, or even Amazon have tons of "on the go" single serving packets so you can try out different flavors before you commit :)

Good luck, hon! I hope you find "your flavor" faster than I did! It took me over a month post op to land on one that I actually LIKED and didn't just choke back.

I was instructed to drink my docs formulary...but my fave, if you have a choice, is Premier Protein Chocolate....The first three days of liquids are rough, but about the fourth day, your tummy figures out that's all it's going to get and it gets easier. You'll get through it.  Congrats on your upcoming surgery!!!

I just finished a yummy pumpkin shake! I used the Body Fortress vanilla (Wal-Mart) and put a large tablespoon of Libby's pumpkin, some cinnamon, a little nutmeg and half a packet of sweetener in it. Good substitute for pie! No need to buy the fancy and expensive pre-mix either. A can of pumpkin will make several shakes.

In all my days ahead I vow to be kind to myself. This shall also be a new and exciting experience.

Wow, thanks everyone for the great advise.  I will go to GNC and see what samples I can find.  I was on the fence on which surgery to have (RNY/SLEEVE), but I have enjoyed the people and the support so much on this VSG sight that it helped make my decision a little easier...  All the COOL kids get the Sleeve!  :)

I look forward to your support in the future!  :)  Happy Friday!

I really like the Isopure No Carb drinks, they are  not milk base sorta of like Gatoride, 20 oz of fluid, 40 g protein 0 carbs and only 160 calories. I tired all of the flavors before surgery and after surgery I ordered 2  case online from the Vitamin Store website free shipping and 10.00 off coupon the price came to about 3.50 per bottle. I pour one in my coffee travel cup and sip it all morning. Like it best cold but taste good room temp also.  That give me half my protein before noon. Good Luck

Also check with your Doctor about a sample 2 week liquid diet because mine includes yogurt, jello, and soups  not what I consider liquid but it does help break up the boredom. I enjoy butternut  squash soup, vegetable & chicken broth and since I get so much of my protein in the morning drinking the Isopures I can consider these dhinks toward my daily liquid
