Foot/leg surgery tomorrow and some NSVs

I decided to have the surgeries for my plantar fasciitis. I've been treating it for almost two years and it is not better. My left leg/foot will be tomorrow morning; three weeks later, the right leg/foot will be done.

The thing I am most nervous about, besides the procedures not working after spending a ton of money on this, is getting out of my gym routine. I will be restricted from doing anything high impact for 3 months. My doctor told me I am the only female patient he's ever had that has been concerned about when she can resume doing squats. I have grown to really enjoy going to the gym. I went one last time tonight and put in extra time because I was actually sad to leave the gym. If you told me a few months ago that I would be sad about having to stay out of the gym for awhile, I would have told you you're crazy.

I know I can keep losing weight through diet and limited activity. However, I wonder how I will cope with stress and anxiety, since the gym has been my main coping mechanism lately. I plan to use this time to work on meditation and self reflection.

On to the NSVs... I had been pretty upset that only one person at work commented on my weight loss. Finally, a couple days ago, not one, but two people commented. That made me feel pretty good.

Also, after going down in clothing sizes very slowly, I seem to have skipped from a size 20 in pants to a size 16. I got some size XL workout pants. I am at that weird phase where I don't know whether to shop in the plus sizes or the misses (both, apparently). But I am pretty thrilled to almost be out of plus sizes!

I guess that is all I have to say. I have been really busy at work and have missed my OH time, so I thought I'd post tonight. If you could send some good thoughts my way for my surgery in the morning, I'd very much appreciate it :)

I haven't been on OH much recently but decided to check in tonight... perfect timing.  First off, good luck tomorrow.  You'll do great!  Next, congrats on the weight loss so far.  You've done a fabulous job.  I'm jealous that you love the gym.  I really want to, but alas, I still hate it and haven't gotten into any type of routine yet.  Good for you on your NSVs!  Great job!!

Hey, I was wondering how you were doing. Looks like you're doing a great job losing! I didn't love the gym at first, and maybe even now it's more of a love/hate thing, but more love than hate :)

I went to that Defy Gravity trampoline place on Sunday and jumped for 45 minutes. And then for the next two days I felt like I got run over by a truck - I was so sore!

Anyway, thanks for the kind words!

Maybe you can try swimming and/or water aerobics.  I've been doing them because of my foot, ankle, and knee problems and needed a no impact exercise routine except for physical therapy.  I do deep water aerobics so there is no impact but I love it.  There is a woman in one of my classes who also had surgery for plantar fasciitis and it's helped her stay active.  Just a thought.

Congratulations on your victories!  You should be really proud of your accomplishments.  I know how you feel, skipping over sizes was a real surprise for me too.  I had many things I never was able to wear that I still had tags on from when I originally bought them in hopes of fitting in them a couple of years ago.  Oh well, someone will benefit from my closet!  :D

I am a big water aerobics fan. In fact, my doctor said I can get in the pool a week after surgery. I watched some Youtube videos and sorta taught myself to swim laps in preparation before surgery as well. So yes, I will most definitely be hitting the pool as soon as I can! Thanks :)

Oh, that's great!  I just love the water!  Since I'm going to physical therapy for the foot/ankle, and knee problems at least I'm getting some land based and weight bearing exercise but I was amazed how much the water firmed me up and slimmed me down even before surgery.  I started a little over a year prior to surgery and was able to lose around 20 lbs before I started my 6 month process for surgery.

Glad you'll be able to get in the water so quickly after surgery, enjoy!

I hope your surgery went well and that your recovery is speedy.  The pool will be great exercise for you...lots of calories burned!

Thank you! Seems to have gone well. Hard to get around as they did a nerve block on my leg and it's numb. So weird!

Lindsay, I know you'll figure it out - you've been successful so far!  Good luck on your surgery today, and I hope you're back on your feet (pun intended) in no time at all!
