Alright new online family please advise me here...

I am doing the pre op liquid diet and I've been good nothing but 2 or 3 protein shakes for the last week plus 2 mile walk jogs. I have a bunch of celery and kale peel from my wife's juicer. I was entertaining the idea of putting some peel into some water to make a broth I'm wAnting something with 0 fat as I'm tying to shrink the liver ya know. Is it possible to cheat like this   Is it wrong?  Is it fat free? Can I make it taste better and 0 fat?  Should I just drink a shake?  Also last niHt at midnight I was so hungry I cheated and ate a tomato. I'm sorry for that. Please do help. A bit of my thought on making the broth was to also help cook for my 2 boys so mama gets a little.Real.

*break. I hate typing on the phone but it's convenient to take you all with me everywhere.  In fact right now we're all going to a hotel pool to swim and workout cause it's freaking cold outside.

You have an insanely strict pre-op liquid diet, so I feel bad for you.

I was allowed 1.5 cups of plain non-starchy veg, one lean cuisine or other "diet" frozen dinner, broth, tea, and coffee if I wanted it per day on top of my 3 shakes. This was MY doctors plan, though. So, I absolutely would not veer off your doctors plan. He/she has reasons for the plan they gave you.

I get that it's hard. I had a rough time, so I imagine you really are, but the reasons for having to do it are entirely worth it! The pre-op diet is to help shrink the liver, but it also gets your mind moving in a different direction. Eating is a totally different experience post-op.

Good luck! You can and need to do it. It's all worth it!

This sounds like my doctor's plan almost exactly. I have to take 3 shakes, a lean cuisine or other 'diet' dinner and up to 2 cups of non-starchy veg (I've chosen collards because yum and they're in season). Interesting how so many doctors have so many different pre-op plans to stick to!

The doc is in mexico so i got an email saying just to do the liquid diet 2 weeks prior and green veggies if I got hungry.  It kind of feels like the strictness is my making. I don't know if I allow this deviation what's next golden corral for 4th meal lol.  Hmm but at the same time can I keep up the high intensity workouts (for me) on virtually no substance? Or is 24 days of protein shakes enough?  And absolutely right about 2 days before clear liquid only!

If you are allowed liquids and you are allowed green vegetables... then I'd think you'd be ok to add kale, etc. It's a green veggie! Best of luck!

I think you're right!  Now umm how would one make a tasty broth?  Normally I'd be like we're going to throw in some potatoes cream of mushroom and pork tenderloin oh and some carrots for health and yep we got a good lookin broth. But not today friends not today lol

Broths are easy peasy! Just take a bunch of veggies and simmer them in water for a couple of hours (crock pot!!). Or you could use a beef/chicken/whatever broth as your base (go for LOW SODIUM and make sure the ingredients are all natural), add veggies to that, and simmer. Just think of it like you're slow cooking a soup.

If you juice your greens, add back to it some of the pulp, heat on the stove and add in some chicken or beef bouillon and seasoning it would be pretty good... that pulp is the fiber part and will help to satiate.
